Are you having a difficult time? I have been doing a sort of engineering consulting for the last 8 years. My job is stable and the pay is very good however it makes me feel like I am dying inside. Each day I spend here I get more and more stupider. I was just wondering what the job market is like and figured the OT forum on Talkbass would be the best place to find out.

There have been 400-500 people there for the past several months. Packed to the rafters. I would say 90% are professionals, ex-managers, etc. One interesting thing is 90% are all in their 40's to 60's. It is a very strong indicator that age descrimination is alive and well, heh. Also, all those older pros and managers just make too much money I suppose and will get squeezed out of orgs faster than younger less-paid workers.
So many variables to consider to answer your question. Location, profession, etc. Another big factor is your job networking skills. Some folks are people-oriented, good talkers, extroverts and just natural-born networkers. Those types will land jobs much more quickly than introverts - in any economic environment. Consider how good a networker you REALLY are before leaving a stable job.
I know you sound bored with your current job, but from my perspective I suggest you milk that cow awhile longer until this jobless recovery turns into a recovery (with jobs). IMHO.
