For those of you that followed my algebra thread

First off, I'd like to say thanks again for the help.

I got my test grade back today. I got a 77%. In any other class that would be a C, but in the math one's its a D. Fortunately, my overall grade in the class is an 80% so I'm teetering right at C.

Thanks to your help I did better on it than I initially thought I was going to, but not as good as I thought. I thought I got at least an 80%, but I was in the ball park I suppose.

77% is a D? Thats pretty harsh.

Yeah, that is really harsh. A 77% is a C+ at my school.

I agree that it's harsh.

In every other class offered the grading scale is: 60-69 = D, 70-79=C, 80-90=B, 90-100=A

The way they work the math is, 70-79=D, I forget what B's and C's are, but I do know that you need to score 94-100 to get an A. In all courses D's are considered a failing grade, you get no credit for the course and have to retake it.

To even qualify to take the exit exam I need an 80% or better final grade. To pass the exit exam I only need to score at least a 70%. I find this aspect of things a bit harsh as well.

What school is this? Even at ERAU our grading wasn't that harsh, and we basically compete with MIT for top engineering school. Our A was 92-100, B was 84-92, C was 75-83, 66-74 was D.
Regardless... at least you're hanging in there with a C . How much time do you have left to improve the 80%?

Ray, the semester end's in early December and this was only the first exam. There's still ample time for me to pull the 80 up. Truth be told, I'll for joy and dance a jig if I can just maintain the 80.

Later edit: I noticed I botched up the grade criteria for the A. It's 94-100, not 96-100. Still a bit harsh though.

Don't fear the algebra. It's just a bunch of rules for fancy counting. The great thing is that the rules are very consistent; there are very few exceptions (see: divide by zero) unlike English and chemistry.

Lots of practice, be meticulous, and show your work and you'll be fine. If you have the time, work problems back wards or substitute in real numbers to check your answers.

94 to 100 for an A isn't that bad. You just have to work harder!
