Thoughts on bass cab as a sub.

Sign in to disble this ad
So I'm almost finished fully outfitting my cars sound system, I put in new speakers and an amp and just need to put in a sub, I originally wanted to put in two tens in my trunk but then I realized the big problem with this plan.

I have a massive 410 bass cab to drive around when I go to shows/practice. So I thought, if I could find a mono 1/4 inch to stereo cord adapter would it work to use my cab as a removable, sub? Use it as a sub and remove for
When I play? Or am I way out of left field here?

i do that all the time.
i drive a Jeep Wrangler, so space is a big issue (pun intended). i made my own speaker enclosure for the rear speakers and made those with 1/4" plugs so i can just plug in my bass cab when i'm on my way to practice or a gig. if i ever put a dedicated sub & amp in it, i'll have the amp hooked up to a 1/4" jack to do the same thing.

there are those who will say don't do it because the cab can't handle that, or because it won't sound right since it's a bass cab. don't worry about them. sure, it won't have the same quality as a $300 stereo sub, but it'll do the trick. and i do this all the time as well as use my gear for the occasional DJ gig and i've never blown a speaker or otherwise damaged my gear. it don't sound like no Mackies, but it does what i need it to do.

FWIW, i use either my 4x10 or 1x15 cab depending on the type of gig.
