Threatened via e-mail

Sign in to disble this ad
I had posted something on craigslist. Something I have done a number of times. Today I got a counter offer, which I declined. I sent a reply. I got back a physically threatening e-mail! The kid (I will get to that) had threatened me because I would not give away my item.
So, I started to investigate a little. I reported it to Craigslist. In the reply e-mail, the actual e-mail address was included. So, I contacted the High School where the e-mail was generated. I filed a report with them. I filed a complaint with the superintendent of schools. I also filed a complaint with the Administrative Disaplinary person. I followed that up with a visit by my local Sherrif's department. I gave them a copy of the e-mails and signed a complaint.

Ha! I love it. It's amazing what people will "say" when behind a keyboard. Nice work iriegnome.

Since it came from a local source, I could not ignore it. Something that would come from Hotmail or yahoo or something, then I would have just reported it through craigslist, but since the person was identifiable, I had no choice. Especially considering my kids and wife.

Well done!
Perhaps if more people took steps like you did this kind of behavior would stop!

I really do think nothing will come of it either way, but in this world we live in, you cannot be to careful.

This sort of thng always makes me think about the end of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back, where they track down and beat up all the people who posted nasty things about them on Moviepoopshoot.com.

No offense, but I think you may have got him more than just a little spanking...

Again, since this came from a local school e-mail provider, I had to take it way more seriously than if it were a hotmail, yahoo or something like that.

I dont see why just because the email was from a local school it had to be taken more seriously. That yahoo email you got could have come from the guy down the street, or next door. Craigslist is a pretty local type of service, when I post something for sale on there its as local as the county I live in. Granted, anyone from the LA area can come across it.

+1. People (especially younger people) these days find it way too easy to hide behind the anonymity of a computer. Good work.

Wouldn't it be grand if the cops made a huge thing of picking him up from high school and spent the day putting him through hell just to teach him a lesson. Played with him and traumatized him, you know. Some people need to be taught the hard way.

My problem is that I usually end up having loads of fun with something like that. The challenge is to threaten back without obviously threatening back. They then come back with something even more bizarre and outlandish, then you counter that with something else further allowing them to dig a bigger hole... it's like a fun game of chess or something - move/counter move etc. Of course, I'm gambling that the person on the other end is just a moron who wouldn't actually do anything, but it can actually be quite entertaining.
