I had posted something on craigslist. Something I have done a number of times. Today I got a counter offer, which I declined. I sent a reply. I got back a physically threatening e-mail! The kid (I will get to that) had threatened me because I would not give away my item.
So, I started to investigate a little. I reported it to Craigslist. In the reply e-mail, the actual e-mail address was included. So, I contacted the High School where the e-mail was generated. I filed a report with them. I filed a complaint with the superintendent of schools. I also filed a complaint with the Administrative Disaplinary person. I followed that up with a visit by my local Sherrif's department. I gave them a copy of the e-mails and signed a complaint.

Something that would come from Hotmail or yahoo or something, then I would have just reported it through craigslist, but since the person was identifiable, I had no choice. Especially considering my kids and wife.

Perhaps if more people took steps like you did this kind of behavior would stop!

That yahoo email you got could have come from the guy down the street, or next door. Craigslist is a pretty local type of service, when I post something for sale on there its as local as the county I live in. Granted, anyone from the LA area can come across it.

Played with him and traumatized him, you know. Some people need to be taught the hard way.

The challenge is to threaten back without obviously threatening back. They then come back with something even more bizarre and outlandish, then you counter that with something else further allowing them to dig a bigger hole... it's like a fun game of chess or something - move/counter move etc. Of course, I'm gambling that the person on the other end is just a moron who wouldn't actually do anything, but it can actually be quite entertaining.
