Thunderscreech's Epic Summer Walk

Well, 550 miles isn't exactly epic, but still...

This summer I've decided to hike the whole of the Appalachian Trail in Virginia, about 1/4 of the total 2000 (+/-) distance. Right now I'm still working out the logistics of everything, but i hope to get started by mid-may, and end around the first or second week of July.

I'll post pictures and etc. when I'm done with my venture.

Sounds like a lot of fun. I was thinking of doing something similar with a trail here in Ontario.

I walked the Maine part. It's a really amazing experience, you won't regret it. I didn't get a view from the top of Kathadin, but I had to expect this the day after a storm warning.

Don't shoot it until you try it.

If you're just thinking about the walking, you're doing it wrong.

while waking up on a warm glowing morning, you'll walk though the bush, you'll hear a sound. You'll look up and notice a red-beaked-FAIL-hawk racing towards you.

I'm sorry, you fail, again.

Dude, that may be the most unnecessary and poorly worded fail I've ever read.

Walking from home to work or school does not equate to 550 miles.

I knew a guy in Orlando back in the 80's that did the WHOLE Appalachian Trail, started in Maine in early May, got done in Georgia in late September.

THAT is an epic walk.

I have done a bit of the trail in VA and a bit here in NC, Dragon's Tooth (just outside of Roanoke) is AMAZING...I went and stood at the very tip of the tallest rock, and it felt like you could see everywhere from there...beautiful.

Enjoy it.

And for those pokin' fun at him, jealousy, it's ugly.

Pack plenty of toilet paper and insect repellent!

I can tell you from personal experience that no matter how thick the mosquito's get never, never, ever spray Deep Woods Off onto your O ring, or adjacent junk. You'll walk home looking like you just slid down a barbed wire banister!

On a related note, the affliction you might come to know as the "fire bag" can be solved with a drop of olive oil on each side of the said "bag".

I'd like a long walk like that but I'd probably die of a heart attack due to smoking.

BTW don't tell us "I'm too lazy to get out of the bed and start walking" when its summer time.

I take lots of bacon camping with me, but not olive oil. Would rubbing a raw bacon strip around down there accomplish the same goal?? I imagine you'd really have to be on the lookout for bears after doing something like that though, huh?

Black bears are myopic, herbivore sissies. Spend your fear time on mosquitoes.
