well, time as humans think of it is actually an illusion. There is only spacetime: a medium in which matter exists only at one point but can move around. Time measures the sequence of these movements relative to a standard movement (like the movement of an electron or something, I don't know exactly how atomic clocks work).

at least, I'm pretty sure that's how time works. Fdeck, you're a physicist, am I on the right track?

Clocks are devices for measuring time as perceived by the human race. In the same way rulers measure space.

But drugs change the perception of time while the clock continues to move at the same rate. Maybe I need to give drugs to the clock.

My body seems to register the passage of time *shrug*

So if there were no humans, the sun would never rise or set. Um, yeah those purple shrooms are kick ass.

Well, if there were no humans, we wouldn't know if there was a sun, let alone if it rises or sets. And, no, it's not shrooms, either.

Would it still be called the sun?

Whatever you called it, and whether or not you're here to notice, the world is spinning, and the sun is rising/setting and therefore time is passing sans clocks. Time is a fact not a creation of the human mind.

But clocks are. Clocks and their measurement units form the basis of our perception of time

Yes clocks are real. The time they measure is completely arbitrary, the same way a ruler measures distance. But that distance is completely arbitrary, hence we have metric rulers.
The arbitrary nature of the measuring device doesnt change the fact that time does exist.
So the original statement that 'time doesnt exist', is obviously pretarded.

Time as we generally accept and measure it, is nothing more than a human concept.

A really really useful one!

Cycles do exist and time is intended to measure those cycles.

You may find this wiki article interesting.

Time is just divisions of one rotational spin of the earth based on 12 and 60.

Asking if time is there time is like asking is there is love, anger or faith. You can't touch it but that doesn't mean its not there, and without humans there would be nothing to care wether there was time or not.

There is a begging and an end or cycle to almost everything, inbetween is just what you call it and maybe make divisions upon it.

Time is more than a concept, it a physical property of the universe. Without time, everything everywhen would exist at the same time. Space would be useless, I'd constantly be bumping into colonists fighting it out with native americans, while simultaneously fleeing a hoverboard riding T-Rex.
