Tipping

Post your method of tipping!!!

Every waitresswaiter starts out with 30% with me. Every fault in her service results in a deduction. The most common fault is not refilling my drink. If my cup is empty I expect a refill without having to ask. If at any point I actually have to get up and find my waitress/waiter either because I am thirsty or need something the Tip is instantly brought to 0%. for me to have to get up it would have to be about 10 min. without seeing my waitress/waiter

My system is harsh but rewards hard work. You can get a fantastic tip or nothing or anything in between based on your level of service.

Around these parts it's quite obligatory to give at least 10% tip, no matter how bad the waiter is. Usually, they are decent, otherwise they get fired.

I give a 20% or so tip if the waitress is really hot, lol.

My wife & daughter are both waitresses and I always have to add tip money to the tips they leave.

I start at 20% and usually round up in their favor. Working food service sucks, I'll help them out if I can.

I do this too.

If the girl is especially cute and nice, the tip gets up to 30 or 40 percent... uh oh .

I just give generous. Me and my friends often frequent a restaurant here that treats us great. There are days when we all eat, and there are days when 5 people only order coffee and sit there for hours. Usually we have the one waiter (we sit outside so the group can smoke) that waits on us all the time, but if he's off we still know everyone that works there. We've given tips bigger than our checks before (On the coffee days). We give them as much as we can, they are usually pretty good at everything, and our main waiter has memorized "the usual" for our group (That restaurant in particular only has one REALLY good dish). And they always bring out ranch for us, without being asked.

Good service, 20% rounded up. Bad service, 10%.

Good service, friendly attitude, and s***head kids that she has to serve, 30% rounded up.

Do you guys tip for regular prices when its happy hour? My dad says this is customary.

Nobody tips here in Australia, and on the very rare occasion that I get asked to tip, I tell them to get stuffed.

I'm sure your waitresses get more than half of minimum wage then

I'd assume so. I know waitressing here doesn't get good pay, but it's not that bad.

Here's how I tip...

Foods/beverages...

< $2.5 = no tip
< $5 = leave $5, change is tips
< $10 = leave $10, change is tips
< $15 = leave $15, change is tips
< $20 = leave $20, change is tips
> $20 = try to sneak out the place without paying

i only tend to tip in restaurants, generally 10%...but depends how much change i've got. i've never had particulary crappy service, but if i did i probably wouldn't bother with one.

of course some restaurants add in a 15% service charge anyway, if that is the case i also forgoe any sort of tip.

I actually had an automatically added tip removed because of the absolutely poor service.

That required making a complaint about the waitress to her manager. I don't particularly like to do that. I like to let my tip do the talking.

I'm the same way... Unless they were blatantly horrible, of course.

20% for better than average service. More if I'm at a family place with wife & kids and the server has to put up with a lot of mess and indecision and hungry-kid behavior.

I always say: Good servers: You can't tip 'em over, and you can't over tip 'em.

It depends, me and some of my friends can be pretty obnoxious at times. so we always leave a decent tip.

when it comes to bar tipping thats another story. normally I tip pretty well, but this is my deal killer, If i put some cash in the jutebox, I expect to hear my song(s) if you skip my songs, no tip. I've had a bartender confront me about this too.
"hey you skipped my tip!"
"you skipped my song(s) that was your tip that you cheated me out of."

songs in question
Killswitch- Holy Diver cover
Rush- YYZ
Ozzy- NIB
Ozzy- Crazy train
and a few other classic metal tunes, I didnt see the problem, its not like I was playing Dimmu bogir or somthing offensive

Bartenders control the jukebox? That's no fun. The ones around here are computer controlled. I put on "Purple Rain" 5 times in a row and it ended up playing it 5 times... people were getting so pissed off, ha...

My daughter has been a server at a local restaurant for 3 years, so I have become more educated about tipping.

Good service gets about a 20% tip. EXCELLENT service may get a bit more. If the service isn't prompt and consistent, the tip drops below 20% quickly.

20% is my standard. It takes a lot for me to give less than 15% or more than 25%.
