My wife and kids watch these shows all the time on TLC, Discovery and now ... Animal Planet!!!
First it started with Little People, Big World. The message was "we're handicapped by our size and people look at us funny but we're actually normal people and we can be successful too".
Great.
Then came season 2, season 3 and all we see is these people doing awesome things like brushing their teeth, playing the Wii and arguing over stupid crap.
They also have "The Little Couple". They show us everything, except one thing, but you just wait... one of these days...
They now have one show on Animal Planet, of all channels. There is a little bit of Animal-related premise, but it's just another reality show around little people.
I know, people watch these shows, but they have to stop calling them "reality shows". What they are are simply freak shows. People watch them because they get their jolly watching handicapped people or people with deformities.
Someone should just put up a "freak show TV".

Look for "History Detectives" for when it comes back for a new season.
It is by far my favorite educational show.

Why does it have to be below the belt, all the time?
Can't you guys raise the bar a little?

I have the utmost respect towards people with disabilities, especially those who overcome these disabilities.
FYI I have a foster child with disabilities, who I have been raising as one of my own for a while now.
It's towards these freak shows that I have no respect.
I guess these folks are laughing all the way to the bank, because both those who put them on TV and those who watch these shows in awe are the true morons in the story.

-Mike | I worked with a little person in manufacturing for many years. He was often called on to go into close quarters areas to weld and actually climb into machinery where no one else could fit. He even built a LOW Harley that he still rides. There was only two of us that he trusted to get him in AND OUT of many of these situations. Honestly, it required a level of trust. |

It's towards these freak shows that I have no respect. | Nick, I am right there with you. I've had a few rants on here about ths exact same thing. I cannot understand the appeal of this voyeurism that has permeated everything on t.v., and how so very many people are so bored with their own lives that they need shows like this. It's like
"oh, bravo (clap clap clap)...until these shows, I had no idea little people had any capacity to take care of themselves and be productive members of society...oh, one of them is a DOCTOR? isn't that nice"?
Give me a break. It's like one channel has one, and then the other networks say "HEY! WE NEED A TINY PERSON SHOW TOO! What angle can we spin on it?"
Same with anything. Why are people interested in some tool douche who makes CAKES? Or idiot self absorbed women fighting over wedding dresses? Or some effeminate male Hollywood plastic surgeon and his saran wrap looking Wife and their "everyday struggles"....or the staged messy house makeovers....the whole drama is completely scripted. It's worse than the motorcycle shows and their fake drama. It's all just so damn tired and stupid.
