It is true, but it is also true of every other piece of technology out there, not just apple.

Yup, thats why I never buy first generation electronics. Sooner, rather than later, a newer better version will be available.

LOL!!! It's funny not only because it's true but because you can substitute so many things for that iPad, I think a Farmville version would be awesome .

In the comic's defense, with apple the turnover rate is incredibly high. The release date for a certain product happens and a month later they have the revised version release date announced for 4 months later. So then you're instantly put in the "I want to buy it but there's a better one already made and they just haven't released it and it has the features I crave" situation.

There are other companies bad for that, but apple is definitely a big one and definitely has a lot of clientele that do instantly "need" the next version.

I can't think of a single thing that Apple has turned over that fast. Everything that I can think of is on a one year schedule.

IIRC, the only time they've done less than 9 months between releases is for a version with more memory, i.e. the iPod Nano 2nd Generation.

That was awesome. Best comic of the day, and I've read several.

This.

Apple DOES release a lot of thing that people crave, though. Their releases are so cool, it's like "I can't wait". I've felt it myself. It's sad, but some of us crave technology, even if it's just because it's "cool".

Today I was ecstatic because of the new iOS release. Was it THAT big a deal? No, and I always knew it wasn't a huge deal, but I was excited nonetheless. It's something they do and how they do it that excites people.

That may be true, for me at least, but that doesn't take away from the fact that everybody releases new versions of their stuff. Maybe some companies would do it more often like Apple if they started coming out with products with the originality that Apple does. For example, they're already coming out with a new version of the Droid soon.

Apple definitely does a good job of cultivating the "got-to-have-it" attitude among consumers.
