I saw it, was Richard Hammond really playing the bass?

Yes he was, he plays an ibanez SR prestige! Does that make him a metalhead?

No, at least what was being played when you saw him playing bass wasn't what he was actually playing with his fingers. He was clearly slapping and popping in the video footage and there was no mike on the speaker so the recorded sound would have been terrible if they were actually taping what he was playing.

That's not to say he can't play, but it was clearly overdubbed in that video.

Great first episode. The bit with the reliant robins was downright hilarious.

I totally watched Top Gear last night, but... it somehow was not that episode.
Though, it was a rather good one. I love that show.

I loved the episode with the Porsche Boxster, Honda S2000 and BMW Z4 shootout.

I hope it will be on BBC online.. I'll get my proxy ready

BBC america is showing old time reruns lately. Although I am excited--tonight is the US premiere of James May's show.

I thought he was being too dramatic w/ the safety measures. But I was laughing my butt of when he took that first turn.

and the cameos of people pushing him up the right way was brilliant, especially loved seeing Dickie Bird on the cricket pitch. not so sure on the new reasonably priced car, kia cee 'apostrophe' d doesn't really do it quite so much as the chevrolet.

Yeah he appeared to be really playing, but they used a cutaway of him playing from a different angle as well that didn't match the audio for the shot. They probably shot all the band and food scenes with a single camera.

Fun episode; I hope the season carries as well
