Toronto-bound Sunday

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm heading to Toronto tomorrow; I'll be working with the folks in my company's Canadian office all week. I'll be free to explore the city on Sunday starting around 3 pm, then after 5 or 6 pm Monday through Friday. (I leave Saturday morning.)

I'm a first-time visitor. I did a search and found a few helpful recent threads.
Anyone from Toronto around here?
Going to Toronto in August!
Stuff to do in Toronto
Trip to Toronto

On my list right now: CN Tower, Chinatown, Kensington Market.

Where I'm looking for help is restaurants and places to see music. (I've noted the Rex for jazz--any indie-rock-type places?) I'm staying downtown at the Royal Meridien King Edward at the intersection of King and Victoria. Generally speaking, I'm also wondering whether I'm in a business district that's dead at night and on the weekends (part of Chicago's Loop is certainly that way).

Restaurants: We try to stay under $25 for dinner in my group, but I'm up for just about anything in terms of cuisine. (OK, I'm not big on sushi.)

Also, any suggestions as far as the lakefront? I'm not sure how open it is.

Finally, if TBers in the area are up for food or a beer or something, let me know. Thanks!

Super cool city, make sure to check out Queen Street, but do it before dark, it gets weird the later it gets. Check with Fbass, there shop is only 25 or 30 minutes from Toronto.

Thanks! I'll visit Queen Street. I'd like to check out F Bass, but I'm not sure I'll have a chance to get outside the city.

aww damn!
Too bad i'm not in town!
Kensington is cool. Never been my "thing" but it's a cool place to check out.

Check out Capsule Music on Queen St. I don't know exactly where, but it's cool to check out vintage gear.

OH!
If you're there on Saturdays, goto the Orbit room and catch the A-Team.

Rich brown plays bass with them usually, but since he's on tour, I don't know if he'll be around.
Either way, the guy who subs for him is a monster. CHECK THEM OUT.

Ah, still on tour--bummer! Thanks for the suggestions, I'll check'em out.

Unfortunately, I'm leaving Saturday morning, so I won't have a chance to catch that band.

Thanks, Bob. I did see it's close to my hotel. I'm not the biggest hockey fan , but I know enough of the history that I might go by.

It seems a shame to go to Toronto and not stop in at Club Bass. You're about 20 minutes by cab from the King Eddie, IIRC, and your hours are probably all wrong to make it happen.

+1 to Capsule, they usually have something interesting to check out if you dig vintage (I do...)
If you go to Capsule be sure to stop in at Ghandi Roti!

Delay the trip to fall so you can catch a Leafs game.

That would be cool if I could check out Club Bass, but you're right, the hours really don't work out--they close at 6 on weekdays. I do enjoy vintage, I'll look to see where Capsule is. If I don't make it, though, it's cool. Honestly, I'm spoiled for choice at home when it comes to checking out basses: Bass Club Chicago, Lakland, Chicago Music Exchange and GC are all 10-20 minutes away by car.

I assume Ghandi Roti is a good Indian restaurant? I'll look into it. Thanks!

Heh. Now might be the only time you can get a seat in that arena, Mike!

Go to a Toronto Rock (lacrosse) game and you can sit in the first row for $30.
