My girl and I have a favorite Mexican restaurant in Park Slope Brooklyn that we go to once or twice a month. They're super friendly, know our order and put it in when we walk in the door, always have a smile for us, and give us an occassional free dessert. They don't do it cuz we're big spenders either. We dont' drink, and our bill is always the same, 28 bucks and change. Tonight we ate there and when they gave us our check it had an envelope with a card inside that said, "To a beautiful couple," along with a gift certificate for $30.

This in NYC.

Sounds like they value your custom. I think they and other businesses with that attitude will always win through - or at least, I very much hope that's the case..

Great to hear something like that. Doesn't happen very often.

Great story!

But I don't think the NYC qualifier is necessary. I've been to NY more times that I can count and I have always found New Yorkers to be some of the nicest people I've ever met. They can be rough around the edges at times but I've always seem to run into the ones with hearts of gold!

Great story.

I've worked in NYC for over 10 years and I have to say that the people I meet in NYC are far nicer and much more friendly than the people where I live in northeastern NJ.

That's a great story Joe. I know a restaurant that did that for me would gain my loyalty.

The best part is that they always had it anyhow. No need to do that.

And I'm not a huge tipper. Maybe a dollar more that the standard 20% because they always treat us so well.

After they had seen me and my family about 5 or 6 times, my favorite Asian restaurant started giving us a free appetizer and an after-dinner plum wine at every meal. Plus they just bend over backwards for us. It's called "value added service" and keeps me coming back.

That makes it even better. You can always tell the genuineness of a gift when it is given with no expectations of one in return. They knew you already eat there quite a bit, so it wasn't a tease or lure to get you to come in more often.

Make sure you post a review of how great the place is on a websitew like yelp or urbanspoon, etc.

Rancho Allegre, 7th Ave. and Garfield Pl. Pretty sure everything they make is awesome. Me and my gal always get the combo #7, a veggie quesidlilla, and super nachos then split it all. We're vegatarian though, so ya might want something different.
