touchscreen phones

i know they have been around for a LONG time now but i have never had one before but now i have to buy a new phone and most of the nice phones are touchscreen so i thought i'd ask if they are really reliable or not? i mean i dont really want to care way too much about my phone, that doesnt mean i'd throw it around but then i dont like carrying it in a cover/case/pouch or anything.

i have always trusted my regular nokia phones with keypad but the samsung corby and star phones look very tempting, am just a bit wary of touchscreen stuff having never owned none before. yeah maybe am outdated but i dont like to buy a new phone every year or two really.
so in short, touchscreen phones are reliable and good? yay or nay? do they need extra care or they go bad?

sounds silly but i had to ask heh

I am quite happy with my touchscreen phone (HTC). My drummer however has an almost identical model to mine and has been through four already (covered by warranty).

We've both had our phones for approximately the same time and he takes better care of his than mine (mine's beat to crap from punishment it receives at work), yet his screens keep going out on him.

I've got insurance on mine, and I'm tempted to trade it in to get a minty fresh one, but I'm concerned that I may've gotten one of the survivors and don't want to jinx it.

I'm happy with my touchscreen (Lg Xenon) but I dislike the one on my mom's phone (some HTC) that one just doesn't feels good to me. I've only had mine for a few months, not problems so far. My mom has it since about a year, no probs either.

Touch screen user here with my iPhone. No issues at all.

However, I hate the touch screen on my mom's Blackberry Storm. It's all a matter of preference.

I love my Iphone3G but mine crapped out after about ninety days.

I sprung for the optional 2 year warranty so Apple just gave me a brand new one on the spot.I do have to reprogram all my phone numbers.

The warranty cost almost as much as the phone.

I have an iPod touch and a Blackberry Storm 2 and I actually prefer the Storm 2 screen. The click feature takes some getting used to, but it helps avoid wayward clicks like I often deal with on my touch when suring the net, etc. I also have the insurance on my phone, but I always have. I manage to damage phones in the oddest ways, and I like to have my bases covered.

ive got the htc/google g1. hasn't given me any problems in the year I've had it. I love that it has a physical keyboard as well as on-screen keyboard.

My first iPhone took a beating, then I give it to my son when got my 3G. It's still going strong now that he's had it for about 6 months. No issues whatsoever, other than we keep downloading each others aps and music on our phones sharing the Itunes software

Sony Ericsson w950i here, still working after around... 3 years? Great phone. Lost my pen, a long time ago but it can recognize my hand-writing even when I write with my thumb... Thumb-writing? Anyway, if a newer generation came out, I'd just skip the whole iPhone-HTC frenzy.

Wow, I've bought it for 160 eur ~3 years ago. It's 180 usd now. It's holding it's value real good!

My iPhone works fine for me, and I use it constantly for the internet and emailing.

The only issue is that I can't stand typing on a touch screen.
It takes some getting used to, and I'm still always making mistakes when I'm typing quickly.

I find with the touchscreens i've worked with that the screen doesn't respond well enough to my fingers. Maybe I've had some rotten apples, but i'll stick with my Moto HintQA30 for now.

Agreed. I had a Glyde and I had constant problems with the screen in the six months I had it. Do NOT, under any circumstances, get a Glyde!

Blackberry Storm is a piece of garbage - their screens crack really easy. Considering the huge $$ these phones cost to replace when you break or lose them I wouldnt recommend for people that are a little wild with their stuff.

I've got the new Chocolate Touch, and I've had zero problems. Screen is responsive, the software doesn't lock up, and it's got a few nifty widgets.
