Is it tradition for your first born's middle name be your name?

I'm just thinking out loud, but I've noticed a couple of people (my brother included) who's middle name is the same as their father's first name. They're also the first born son of the family.

Is this traditional? Maybe along the same lines as naming your son (or daughter) after yourself? Or are people just uncreative?

I just gave my son all of my names, but that is because I really am just that uncreative.

My middle name is my dad's first name, and his older brother's middle name is their dad's first name. My sister's middle name is my mum's first name. I don't know whether it is a running tradition in our family or what, but that is the way things have turned out so far.

Not is my case. If I ever have a son, he probably wont get either of my given names either.

Every Filipina I've dated has the name setup where their middle name is their mothers maiden name. So then, when they would get married, their fathers last name would then become their middle name.

For example

Chewbacca The Wookie

becomes

Chewbacca Wookie Walaby

Not for me, although my dad's middle and last names are his father's complete name (my granddad didn't have a middle name). I have the same complete name as my dad, with the suffix "II", and if I have a son I plan on making him a "III".

My middle name is my grandfather's name and my twin brother's middle name is my other grandfather's name. However, my father's middle name is my grandfather's name (so I share a middle name with my father).

I have friends whose middle name matches their father's first name. Definitely common.

Not for me. It IS tradition on my father's side for every first born son to be the same name as the father.

Sort of. My first name is my dad's middle name and my middle name is my grandfather's first name.

Side note a bit - In russia, people don't have middle names - it's more of "son of" name. So every equal to middle name in Russia is fathers name.

So I am Sergey Mikhailavich (Serg son of Mikhail)

Works out great IMO

Hmm. It's a bit like that bit in the bible that's like "Abraham son of Jehovah, son of David, who once bought a carpet off a Kevin, whose sister dated Steve from down the road...." or whatever it is.
