I'm thinking about taking a trip to Toronto (Canada) to see a friend during my one-week vacation in mid-February. I've been searching for plane tickets, and the lowest price I found was in the $600 range (I'll be flying from Seattle). I've never flown to Canada before, so I was wondering if $600 is normal or high. Does anyone know whether the price will keep rising or is there a chance that the price will drop?
Also, any suggestions as to where to look for an affordable place to stay in Toronto?
Thanks! |

You can get downtown in about 30 minutes using public transportation.
$600 sounds about right for a ticket to Toronto, but look into flying into Hamilton, usually about $100 cheaper and not that far out of the way, London is sometimes cheaper, but usually more expensive and it is further than Hamilton.
Toronto is a cool city, I recommend checking out the Eaton center and the Holocaust Museum, if you get the chance. Also, the "gay district" on Church street is a very interesting place, but don't go there at night as it turns into a place with lots of drug addicts. There are a lot of cool little restaurants and clubs with live shows, so try and get out and see some stuff. Toronto is one of the few places in Canada with actual culture.

Also the Hockey Hall of Fame is pretty cool too.

The hotels are rather expensive there I guess. I stayed at the Holiday Inn right in downtown when I was there a month ago. $200-230 per night plus tax. Glad I didn't have to pay it myself.. Google is your friend when it comes to hotels so it's rather easy to find and compare prices. Just remember to consider traveling costs as well if you pick a hotel outside of town - Rental cars, gasoline, parking tickets, subway tickets ($2,30 per trip IIRC), taxi...
By the way, no chance you can stay at your friend's place?
It's usually better to book flight tickets in advance, and the less flexibility you can handle, the cheaper tickets you get. To me, $600 sounds decent for that trip as it's rather long, but I can't really tell as I've never flown within North America. You might be able to find something cheaper though if you look at alternative airports, low-price flight companies etc.

You sure you've thought this through?? Why not have your friend meet you in Barbados or something??

You can always try to see Canada's pride, the Toronto Maple Leafs.

haha, i just dislike toronto because every time ive been there, the streets were rolled up and everything was closed before 9
maybe i was in some of the wrong areas, but even my parents who have been there many times over the years always complain about a lack of attractions and even places to eat.
i just find it a boring city.
in Montreal there's always something to do, and everyone is always up and about at any time of night
