at the moment i have this wake up at 4.30am thing happening, by the time i get back to sleep its about 6 and i have to wake up at 7.00 and feel like a mack truck has run over me. I try all the relaxing techniques...breathing...tricks....but not much works
maybe i should just go for a run around the park and not worry about getting back to sleep...lol |

| | | | Simple...go to bed later than usual.
You will not get as many hours, but the hours you do get will be uninterrupted.

Be sure there is enough fresh air for you to breathe. Don't eat before going to sleep. If that's all fine, then it's time to observe your body position. Are you totally relaxed? Arms, legs, neck and spine should be free of stress. Last but not least, there is the mind. Don't let the situation stress you. If you don't sleep immediately, there is time to think of nice things, like the last gig, football or whatever brings peace to your mind. Hopefully this helps.

I usually get tired earlier, and I either get back to normal, or I get in a up early, out early groove for a few days. Both work better than fighting normal sleep cycles.

| | | | i actually just got back from a doctors visit for insomnia.
he suggested a bunch of things, most of which i was already doing, but one of the things worked immediately.
he suggested that if I wake up in the middle of the night, or if I have trouble falling asleep, to get out of bed and go do something mellow (meditate, listen to music on headphones) somewhere else. He strongly suggested that I NOT read or exercise.
I ended up going to my living room and meditating. I was asleep in 20 minutes. I actually ended up sleeping on my living room floor for a couple nights. After that I could start falling asleep in my bed again. |

I've found that most people are deficient in Essential Fatty Acids and the Fish oil pills are terrible tasting when you burb them up. I would suggest Udo's Choice. You can find it in the refrigerated section of any good health food store. L-Tryptophan also helps with sleep if you don't want to go the drug route. Most MDs today are afraid to prescribe Benzos because they can be addictive, but the newer drugs like Ambien and Lunesta have cause more problems than the good old fashion Benzos. The best Benzo for sleep is Klonopin. |

Exercise just before bed can just wake you up more.
I guess reading is quite similar, in that it stimulates the mind, keeping you awake (granted, that part doesn't happen to me, I practically need to read to get to sleep!)

If I have a problem going to sleep, or wake up and can't go back to sleep, one of those gets opened up... Interesting reads on the other hand GIVE me insomnia. Even if I've put the book away, if I haven't finished it, I'll end up thinking about it hard enough to keep me awake... I've also found that a mild pain reliever can help. Sometimes just a touch oh achiness in joints and/or muscles can be enoughbto keep you awake.
