Trying to find a decent summer job... advice?

I'm getting pretty frustrated. I've had 2 job offers revoked as soon as they found out I was a college student. I don't get it... I'm more trained/talented than kids my age who aren't in college, but they'd rather hire them. I understand that hiring someone for short term (I can work four months, May until September) may not make the most sense for most companies, and frankly I'm sick of being honest and telling them that I'm in college. Most of these companies have extremely high turnover rates anyway (Who really wants to work in a call center the rest of their lives?).

So far I've applied, pretty much had an offer, then been rejected once they found out I was in school at Convergys (call center, but really good pay and hours) and Guitar Center (I was soooo pissed after he said "Oh, we don't hire you if you're in school...). I've seen so many kids my age working at GC who don't know ANYTHING about the stuff they are selling.

I am securing an internship for the summer in a studio, but that of course will be non-paying. I need to get some money for my general living and more music gear... any ideas for jobs above minimum wage (at least $8 an hour) that will hire a college student? Should I just bite my tongue in the interview and not mention it?

School is over soon and I have no idea what I'm going to do for money over the summer, haha. Your help would be appreciated!

-Ted

Roofing does suck, but they get paid really well. Suck it up for 4 months, get in shape and make some major cash.

Roofing around here is "doing hard time"..

Make about $15 an hour,
Guranteed Sunburn,
sore ankles/knees,
bloody knuckles if shingling,
cut up hands if doing pro panel,
Burns / ruined clothing if hot mopping

Been there - done that - for TOO long - NEVER AGAIN!

If crusing around on a riding mower in a park like setting (golf course) don't blow your skirt up, check out the lumber yards, they also can usually use some help during the season.

A lot of clothes stores really like to have people working just over Summer, since that's where all the business is. Come Fall, all the business goes away, so they like to get rid of employees, too.
