Tutoring Rant!!!!!!

So, i volunteer my time once a week to tutor a kid in the chicago public school system through a program at my university. I have done this for 3 semester, and its been great, the kids and parents have all been courteous and prompt, and if they cant make it they have always called in advance. Now this semester rolls around.

I think the tutoring has been going on for at least 6 weeks, and i just met the kid last week. Before last week, they have not showed up without calling to let me know, or have called when ive already arrived at the tutoring center. So last week, the kid shows up and bring NO WORK! So i called the mom and told her that im not there to baby sit her kid, if she wants me to help thats great, but dont come with nothing to work on.

So now this week, i get a call from the coordinator saying the kid wont be coming in. Seriously W T F. Im volunteering my time to help this kid out, and they have flaked HARD for the past 6 weeks. I told the coordinator they need to drop them from the program, but he said they cant do it mid semester. So here i am stuck with an incredibly irresponsible parent that i dont know what i should do with.
