hey guys.
i thought this might be a good place to ask this since alot of people on here are older(than me)and im on here so much!
but im going to prom in like two weeks. i was originally just going to wear my suit. its a nice suit. i was going to wear black pants and jacket with a black shirt, silver tie, and some cuff links( i love cuff links, i like little stuff like that)oh and a nice pair of shoes i still need to buy. so its not like im going to be wearing a crappy suit.
but should i just rent the tux? thing is i dont like wearing stuff i dont own. and honestly i like suits alot better. i feel like they are more stylish and not as run of the mill like a black/white tux.
its junior prom not senior. and we arent really making it a big deal.
thanks for the help fellas!
btw im such a primadona after reading over that ha. |

Personally, owning both a tux and a suit, my suit is a lot nicer than my tux, and I wear it a lot more. The tux was about $160 including shoes (ridiculously cheap, I know), the suit was $600 and shoes were $250. Just wear whatever you'll feel more comfortable in, as long as it's nice you won't be out of place.

For my VI Form prom (Senior? We were all 18) I wore a pinstriped suit with a red shirt and black tie (again to match my girlfriend's dress). I much preferred the suit - It was just a bit different to what everyone else was wearing.
Here is a picture of me with my old band (Slippery Nipple) with some drinks (Slippery Nipples... )
EDIT: Having sobered up considerably since posting this picture, I would just like to say that I think this is an awful picture of me (and I may have been quite drunk at the time...)

| | | | i had a tux for my junior prom and it was awful. it's not worth it, and rented tuxes feel like they were made in a sweatshop. plus, even though it had been washed, it felt strange being in tux pants that had probably seen some close action the week before. for the senior one i'd say drop the money. for your junior one it's pointless. |

Make do with what you have. Just make sure you don't do a fashion faux-pas like wear a black dress-shirt with a black suit. A nice white shirt with a solid (or striped, but solid is more formal unless you get a really nice silk tie with interesting motifs) red, blue or even purple tie will look a lot better than something flashy.
Going with something like a solid red or dark blue shirt underneath your suit will look too dark, busy and you'll look like a wannabe bouncer from a strip club or some guy who works in repo. Also, whatever you do, NO BLACK TIES whatsoever. I repeat, no black ties (unless you're going for a bad 90's look ala Reservoir Dogs).
Can't go wrong with black/white/red or marine/baby blue/red.
PS: I worked extensively in mens fashion and saw some gaudy/awful combo's in my time ! What I gave is rough guidelines so you look the part with minimal cash on hand. |

(By the way, I bought my tux a while ago because I needed one for the wind symphony I play in.) |
