Americans are easily distracted by moving pictures.

Now if they can just get the cable and satellite people to get rid of the commercials all together, than I'll be happy. I thought the original purpose of paying for cable tv in the first place was so we didnt have to watch commercials. Now they spend all that extra money on dozens and dozens of programming that few watch or even care about. Who has time to watch 300 different channels... ridiculous, how about some ala' carte programming.

Now get back to work and do some other good stuff for us

Damn, when I read the thread name, I thought they all had resigned.

Apparently the American Association of Television Advertisement Producers didn't pony up enough money to win this time.

There's a bill that's been tossed around a few times that would require cable/satellite services to offer channels alá carte, but it's never passed. The problem with that is there would be no regulation on pricing, so they could just make that option cost more than getting a package. Getting the numbers up on potential ad viewing is a big deal for those guys. If I want just Internet from Comcast it's $100, if I get basic cable with it it's $50.

+1 Hate when I am woken up from a good sleep in the La-Z-Boy by some friggin' Sham Wow ad. Someone needs to design a device that detects the sound of me snoring and then turns down the volume and puts on some soothing ambient music. I'd pay for that. The acronym "CALM" is great; love it.

Im sure the costs vary widely on programming, obviously an ESPN is gonna be more expensive than some home shopping channel. What they should do is have a package of ten or twenty channels and give a menu of 25-50 to choose from. Im no tech nerd by any means but that kind technology has to exist by now. The whole cable/satellite thing needs to be streamlined. Lets stop the "500 channels and nuthings on" madness now. There could be one channel that just preveiws new networks available such as "Paladia" or whatever.

The big problem is that there is no competition in most cable TV markets.

Well then, I am outraged that Congress has spent years and years working on this bill and nothing else. It's a travesty, I say! /sarcasm
