It seems some of Soundcontrol's former stores will re-open soon with "Reverb" as the owner.

20% off all gear, too.

I'm somewhat cynical about this move. Selling the gear with 20% off sounds like a good move for them to "make space" as they say. Sound Control's tat goes out, Reverb's tat comes in. In the end, I'm not sure how long they will stick around, and no doubt in the end the best part of their gear will be tat like SC's was.

Yeah, it's a shame neither Newcastle or Preston's SC's will be re-opened. All we have now in Newcastle really is Guitar Guitar, which is the epitome of an awful guitar shop experience!

Dunno! I'm not really certain how my Ashdown ABM gear, my USA DLX Jazz V, my Yamaha acoustic gtar, my lad's Roland drum kit (ad nausea) bought from Soundcontrol can be any more or less "tat" than if it'd been bought elsewhere.

I don't know the Reverb people, their parentage or ambitions. But I'm glad to see some music shops back open. Maybe they should be given the benefit of the doubt before we slate them?

I will certainly visit the new Leicester shop but am sad to see the Nottingham branch (where that lot above was bought) remains shut. Sad because I made a couple of friends amongst the staff, and sad because my repaired Crate practice amp is still locked-up inside the store!!!

Oh, SC have had some great gear-I got my Spector there and my first Ashdown amp (which was good for an Ashdown!). The Newcastle store also had some great Euro and USA Spectors! But they did have a lot of tatty gear, in every shop I visited.

Reverb is owned by Arbiter, who used to distribute Fender in the UK. These days, Arbiter is the UK distributor for Spector, so at least the Reverb stores should have Spector basses in them!

Bah. Time for someone in the UK to get a Guitar Center franchise... this is a missed opportunity!
