UK tb'ers? (need info on schooling system)

Sign in to disble this ad
Next year I'm going to finish high school, I will have finished my VWO (link for non-dutch people for comparison) and I'm really thinking about going to England after that.

At my school we have a program with the University of Cambridge with which we can take exams to get our CAE (Certificate in Advanced English) and I'm one of the 5 (of about 60 students) that is advised to get my CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English).
Now, this isn't just something extra to put on my Curriculum Vitae. It will put me ahead of (non-English) students without this certificate when I want to study abroad. Ergo, increasing my chances of getting accepted.
So that won't be a problem.

I'm thinking about either studying music or English.
So if any of you could give me some info about what schools are good, which ones I certainly shouldn't go to, housing systems and any other extra little things I'm forgetting about right now..

Thanks a bunch!

I'd say it really depends on what you want to do.

But from experience, in Scotland, Dundee University and Edinburgh University should be worth checking out.

One thing I will say though, is that Music may not be such a great thing to get into, a friend of mine finished her BA(honours) in Music last year, there were no jobs going at all, now she is doing an MA to try an boost her CV while still hunting for jobs.

Another friend of mine who finished her english degree (got a 1st!) at Dundee University, thought very highly of the course. She is now pursuing a PhD over at St Andrews University.

But I dare say you said England, so it doesnt matter

Hmm, so if I'm gonna do music, I'm going to do it here. Because I know the schools and I have quite some friends in the cities those schools are in.. I'm planning on applying to both. Music here in Holland and English, well, in England (or Scotland, depends on the housing facilities and stuff)
