"Unallocated HDD"

One of my drives is showing up as "Unallocated".

It was originally the drive that had windows on it, but something went tits up and it stopped loading.

(I have an acer aspire one netbook which im having problems with, most likely a faulty battery, but to make sure it wasnt a software issue i was reverting it to "factory settings". To do this, they give you a CD, useful, seeing the aspire one doesnt have a disc drive. The instructions says to stick the CD in another PC, boot the disc, and use an option in there to load some data over to a USB pen. Thats what I tried, I got an error, and ever since the main computer wouldn't start up)

Im sure, unless it was pure coincidence, that the drive's file structure has somehow been altered, and not that the drive is kaput. Is there any way I can browse that drive and recover files that are on it?

Was in a hurry to try and get the files back.

Just off the phone to a more computer savvy friend and got the answer.

For the sake of people searching with the same issue:

Acer Laptop with a battery problem? All to common, it's the power connection thingy, absolute piece of crap in Acers, had it fixed as I could no longer charge the battery and it broke again within a few months.

Bugger

Is it more likely to be with the battery or the laptop, or can it be either side of the connector? Any suggested fixes?
