Is it unfair to ask someone not to die on you ? I am very conflicted in my answer to this , I best sort it out first.

Unfair.

You cannot request dying or not dying.

In some circumstances you can cause or prevent dying.

Dying is not a choice a dying person can undo.
Taking your own life is a different matter, that I don't consider dying as in the context of the question.

Do whatever is in their best interests, and hope that they do the same for you.

You're seeing this the wrong way. It is a rhetorical request, the real sense of it being "we need and love you so please hang on to life".
It is selfish. Like asking you lover not to leave you or inviting friends to your parties.

If someone is going to die, the least you can do is let them die on you. How much would it suck being rejected at the very end of life?

Personally i'd prefer if they were on someone else when they died.

I agree with this view. Showing someone hope and purpose in life is worthwhile. Letting them know they are loved and have a real place your life is/can be, an important part of a healing process.

If a person has come to a place health-wise or personally when they see no reason to live, telling them they are loved and needed is still not a problem. If dying is important to them, they'll do it without your permission.

I'm having a very bad week concerning this subject. I guess my answer would be no. When it's time to go, it's time to go.

No it's not unfair at all, it's simply human. Is it selfish? Maybe, just depends on the situation.

I'm not sure. If it's true that people generally release fluids when they die, then no, it is not unfair. Think about it this way: Is it unfair to ask someone not to pee on you? Call me selfish, but I might have somewhere to go after you die.

Mike

So... is it fair to ask someone to die on you?

Your threads are getting wackier and wackier with every thread.

Is it unfair, yes, but then life is unfair. Death is inevitable. As a friend if they're killing themselves with drugs or alcohol or the like then I owe it to them to point it out and try to get them to seek help. If they have an incurable disease, then as painful as it may be to me, I have to support their right to make their own decisions. I long ago decided that I did not want to live life like it was an endurance race, that quality of life was as if not more important then quantity of life.

I should point out that the selfishness of not wanting someone to die is both normal and a good thing. The ability to love and bond is what binds us together.

MM, if this thread was for an actual situation you're going through, good luck.
