Question University Students how do you recharge your mind/body ?

To the fine University Students of TalkBass.com - Bass Guitar and Double Bass Forums: Basses, Amps, Strings, Effects

How do you recharge yourself amidst a prolonged period of extreme stress where you have to produce the finest product on the first submission ? I am down to my last set of comprehensive exam essays before my oral defense on the 31st of this month but it feels like I am running on empty.

I don't really get stressed but violent video games always help me find my zen .

This has by far been my most stressful semester in college, and it really showed in my final grades. This is the first time I've ever made below a 3.0 in my life. I'm pretty sure at some point this semester, I developed anxiety and insomnia.

If I'm nervous or anxious, I meditate and/or smoke pot. If I'm super stressed out, I meditate and/or smoke pot. If I'm just drained, I will go workout feverishly for 15 to 30 minutes and see if that helps. If not, then I do the above.

I also frequently take long walks around campus, even in the cold/rain, to clear my mind. My roommates are great people, and they help with the coping process as well.

Tl;dr:

I rely on a complex system of things including great friends, my family, some meditation, exercising, substance use, etc.

Agreed! Unreal Tournament FTW

I think getting a good dose of rest helps. I sleep at least 5 hours everyday: I think that's a reason why I've never felt absolutely drained out no matter how stressful the conditions in school or uni become.

If I'm feeling nervous (especially before exams) I try to divert my mind towards doing something else that requires immense concentration. For example, a really difficult bass exercise. Trying to do that takes your mind away from the source of anxiety.

Well, for me it depends on the situation at hand. I am a tuba student, so close to recital time of the year I hate practice but before/after that I find practicing tuba to be very relaxing. Mainly long low notes at really low metronome tempos lol

taking care what you eat, too, don't eat crap and always eat breakfast to regulate hormones!

but sometimes all that sorts you out is a cigarette and an alcoholic drink of some sort!

Have something else on other than your exams to think about; a meaningful escape. Don't let it take over, but having something else that you go and 'do' (rather than just chilling out and killing time) really helps me get the work done when I get back to it.

i study to the exact same music and have for years: aphex twin selected ambient works vol 2. having something really calming that you can always associate with relaxation and work is very helpful. i meditate to it. it helps me get to sleep. it gets me focused for information intake. get your study mix man! or get a massage or something. stress and second guessing will torpedo your scholastic endeavors.

Take a night off, grab a pizza and vegetate infront of the TV or PC, or if there is still some physical energy in the tank, go and do some heavy lifting, which is a great destresser.

Engage in coitus. Imbibe some ethanol fortified beverages, perhaps peruse some classic literature.

Anything that relaxes me mind and body.

I tend to get on the bike or hike and get some space away from it all for a bit, drop all the distractions and have some time-out.
It pay's off in more ways than one.

okay so far we have play violent vidya gaymes, metitate and/or smoke weed, go for a walk/bike ride, work out, and drink alcoLOL and have some secksy fun thymes with a lady friend.

I usually do the violent vidya gaymes, play some bass, drink a NICe beer, and build stuff - I find it very relaxing to build stuff, primarily ukuleles.

For me it was always;

Going outside, walking around town for a bit
Going out for the night, or heading to the pub to have a drink or two
Sex
Weed (occasionally)
Vegging out
Playing bass for a bit
Cooking

Pretty much just something to get my mind off of what I was doing.

From what I remember of college there were a few things:

Alcohol
Video Games
Sex

In no particular order.
