I love 7 so far. |

i haven't had any bugs yet. settings are a little more advanced. make sure you adjust the user control settings, it still has the pop-ups like vista at first. i just turned mine off....but i am in IT and know what to watch out for. Avast (free) anti-virus works great...just download the vista version if 7 isn't up yet. I have an old video card, and i had to search for the correct driver...the newest nvidia drive crashed me while watching videos....but it was part my fault.
one thing i noticed right off the bat was that 7 installs fast! it was 20 minutes from formatting to desktop, and i have a dual core with 1G of ram...it was great!

My only complaint though is that it takes 1gb of ram for itself. |

i upgrade my MB about a year ago, and already ddr2 is too fast for it...i had to get some additional ddr just to install windows. i'll be upgrading in spring hopefully...

It's been 100% stable, reliable, etc. I've had zero problems with it. There's no comparison to Vista, IMO/IME. I'm no longer the MS XP Pro fanboi that I have been.
I'm *assuming* MS didn't screw up Windows 7 for the retail release. Word on the street is they didn't. My retail copy should be here in a few days and I'm anxious to compare to the release candidate build I've been running to see what differences there are, good and bad.

As long as 7 isn't the failure that Vista was, I won't try to get a copy of XP. Really, if my laptop wasn't starting to die, I'd be content with what I have. However, it is running slower and slower even after I have deleted programs, installed virus protection that has some bite (Kapersky), and ran the various system utilities. It has been a good computer, but I guess about 4.5 years is all the life I will get out of it. I'm saving up for overkill.

The only thing I found with Vista is it seems to eat up a bit of HD space. A tweak with the page file system stopped it in it's tracks, but Vista, my Anti-virus and a couple of other programs have taken up 43g on it's 48.8g partition. Lots of updates from windows and Vista now it's second service pack, I guess.
My only question. Any reason to stick with 64 bit?
Besides games, I'm really not sure if much or if any software followed suit with what was supposed to be the better performer. |

Our network manager recommends it. Fair warning: his upgrade took more than 2 hours, not 20 minutes. Give yourself time to do it right. I'll be running it tonight.

Isn't it to use more than 4gb RAM?

No complaints, except it was hard to leave XP Pro that I had come to nearly master. This will take some time, but a lot of the features are intuitive to me.
