UPS ruined my weekend

Sign in to disble this ad
9 out of 10 packages I get sent to me via UPS are in some way messed up. Either broken beyond repair, damaged, extremely late or simply never get delivered and returned to sender.

Got a gig tomorrow and I was supposed to get my new amp today. UPS is extremely unreliable in my area, but typically shows up before my apartment office closes. Not today, they showed up at 9:30pm! What the hell is that about!?!?!?! I was out (because I never would have expected them to try and deliever that late) and missed them. Of course, the apartment office is closed.

Now I have to wait until monday to get my new amp and do my gig tomorrow with my ....meh.... amp. I'm so angry I can't go to sleep. My blood pressure is through the roof.

Try to pick it up from the depot? That's a great idea. Lady on the phone said I had to call before 7pm in order to pick it up in person on Saturday morning. That's hard to do since they didn't log it as undelievered until 9:30pm. This is a complete rant and pout. However, I don't feel right venting on my wife or the poor lady working in the call center. It's niether of their faults. However, if I could find that UPS driver, I would rip his arms off and beat him to death with them

* Had a pedal I ordered. The guy shipped it UPS. Driver "attempted" to deliever it, and marked undelievered because I wasn't home. Thing is, I was home and sitting on the couch by the door during the time he marked it as undelivered. Called to file a formal complaint. Some kind of manager at my local depot called me back about an hour later. I gave him the complete run down and history of the problems I have had over the last year. I was polite and asked if there was a logical explanation (ie- new driver, turn over, truck broke down, etc). He couldn't give me any excuses and didn't even try. He simply stated he would "talk to the driver". Psh, whatever. I know now that anytime I have something shipped UPS to me, I have to log into the website and change to customer pickup. That seems to be the only way I can get my packages even remotely close to the intended date of delivery. Also, this way if the box is damaged, I'm right in their office to address the issue.

Ok, I'm over this now. Thanks TB for letting me vent my tempor-tantrum here.

UPS are, in my experience, the very, very worst company in the known universe. They are the only bunch of shambolic, talentless incompetents I've ever known who are capable of invoking the exact feelings you describe with such intensity. I would not trust anyone at UPS to reliably deliver a stream of urine from their bladder after a heavy drinking session. Hateful. I sympathise totally with your predicament.

I had a buddy who worked in the warehouse loading trucks...

I don't recommend using them either.

Thanks guys. I came back to try and delete the thread, or at least "edit" everything out of it. But, since I see I'm not alone and it feels good to bash the evil entity that is, UPS, I guess I shall leave it be.

Thanks for understanding. It feels good to know I'm not the only one UPS has crapped on repeatedly.

A few months ago, I had a package make it all the way to my city's depot, then get sent across country for no apparent reason, then returned to sender. It took me nearly 3 months to get the package. The sender sent it two day air once he finally got it back. Ugh, UPS- Unbelievable Poor Service.

I have found that escalating my bitching got me what I wanted with UPS. Make a stink out of them delivering that late and insist you need to pick it up at the depot TODAY. I did it 2 months ago and it worked. Just my 2 cents..

In over 25 years of using UPS, I've never had a single issue with them. I've shipped and received basses, amps, cabinets, all sorts of electronic equipment, etc. I've seen so many horror stories and I keep wondering when my number will come up.

It completely and totally depends on the driver and depots involved.

I moved a few months ago to a new location maybe about 20 miles from where I used to live.. Before I moved, I HATED Fedex with unbridled passion, disliked UPS because it was a crapshoot with them, and loved USPS.
Now at my new location? UPS is phenomenal as is Fedex, and USPS is utterly absolutely and thoroughly awful.

UPS does not have a monopoly on poor delivery service. I recently ordered a dvd to be shipped by USPS. I was having it delivered to my business address, I thought. I looked at the tracking after I thought I had given enough time for it to arrive. It was returned to sender because I had moved and left no forwarding address. The business is in the same place it has been for the last year, (it's original location) so I felt there was no need to make a change of address. Gotta love the postal "service."

do what i do...

introduce yourself to the drivers in your area and exchange numbers. even if you have one drivers number it helps. on the Due Date call and arrange a drop time or sometimes i'll drive to their truck. gl.

I'd go down to your local UPS hub anyways today and ask for your package.

Ok, I'm off to facebook to begin an "I hate UPS" support group.
If you think it sucks missing your 9:30pm delivery, think of how much it sucks to be the UPS driver still out working at 9:30pm on a Friday.

i worked at UPS for 11 months, these drivers work hard, and long hours, during peak season (christmas time) they'd be in at 6 or 7 am to help finish loading their package cars when their shifts dont start til 9 am and wouldn't get done til 10pm or later... 6 days a week.

as to people insinuating that they are hard on packages on purpose, you cannot blame a company for the employees being careless.. UPS has a zero tolerance policy for mishandling packages, you throw, kick, etc a package you're done no questions asked. manager takes your badge on the spot and security escorts you out of the building. saw it happen twice.

UPS does a higher volume of packages than all other package services combined if you dont include the USPS.. its hard to get 100% thru without anything going wrong at those numbers

i've had my worst experiences with fed ex. and my best with USPS.. UPS falls middle of the road to me

I have to agree with this. My local route guy is great, and we get stuff regularly and in good shape.

If you're having consistent trouble. Call corporate every day until you get someone higher up to pay attention.

I can understand when accidents happen but what angered me was when a guitar I did ship got damaged, they did everything to not pay for it even though I insured it. Ever since then, I have not trusted them.

Our local UPS people are very friendly and even know me by my first name but as far as the company goes, after that incident that I had with them, I'm not sure if I will ever use them again.

On a side note, when I did get the guitar finally paid for, they said they would pick it up within 3 business days since the insurance was paying for the guitar but if they did not then the guitar would remain mine. It's now been about 9 months and they never came and got it so I think it's safe to say the guitar is mine to keep once again. I just need to replace the pickups that were damaged and she will be as good as new.

UPS in my area is good, and I know most of the drivers and a shift manager down here on a first name basis.

Our Fed-Ex has ruined more than a good day of mine. They cracked a CF nitrogen tank that I had shipped to me overnight or 2 day specifically for a paintball tourney and then called it being cracked my fault. After hours and hours, they agree to send it back and the store agrees to send it to me. Second package comes roughed up and tank gets here with a messed up gauge.

Moral of the story:No more Fed-Ex for me.

If UPS is the brown truck with the weird doors on most of the trucks, as i can never remember. I had a delivery, a new pc case, my house and the one next door are both students, i was waiting patiently for the delivery to arrive, anddd i caught the guy delivering it to next door, Without even trying here, and it cleary said my house number on it, seriously? a monkey could do a better job, and be nicer about it ¬¬

All those companies are good in my area, and they should since I'm located in one of the most important HUBs in the country.

Yikes...

The only thing worse is the enormous loads they put on drivers to deliver in a single day. UPS' profit is partly derived from not putting additional drivers out to deliver-and they do swing a huge annual profit.
