UPS Sucks

Sign in to disble this ad
Purchased a bass from a fellow TB'er instrument arrived safely, UPS destroye dteh case. Filed a claim, driver picked up the case and box--said it would be examined at the depot and returned within one business day.

After one week, started emailing UPS, was told they will only deal with the shipper.

Contacted the seller--had heard nothing from UPS. After 10 emails UPS told me the case was returned to Office Depot and in their possession.

So if I figure this out correctly--Office Depot has no vested interest and won't fight for a settlement. Even if UPS cuts a chech, I'm totally depending on Office Depot to have the honesty to pay the seller anddown the line....

What a f'ed up system--I see UPS running me in circles until I just go and give up

Anyone out there have similar experiences? Were you able to successfully settle.

Shipping insurance is a JOKE

yes, it is a joke.

Every item I ship something, I meticulously over-pack everything myself keeping in mind that the delivery service will do the unimaginable in attempt to destroy it. Even then UPS/FEDEX/etc has managed to break stuff.

Remember that thread where a bass was run over by a UPS truck, snapping the neck in two?

same

No member should use office depot, staples drug stores etc as they are listed as the shipper.
Same thing happened to me when a TB member sent me a bass by dropping it at a Riteaid or something, then UPS punched a hole in the molded case. I opened a claim with UPS but the clerk at riteaid was listed as shipper. Guess what happened to that check, if one was ever sent.(which I doubt)
UPS is deny deny on claims as they tell you it was not properly packed etc.
Only way to stand a chance is to take your item to UPS store and have them pack and ship it. They claim they will settle since they packed it. Costs too much to ship though

Shipper pays the cost of shipping, it makes sense the refund goes through them. It's a pain to wait, but that's how it works in every industry.

Maybe it's a better idea for the buyer to make the actual shipping arrangements/payment.

If a seller is advertising a bass/or other piece of gear for ...say....$700.00 shipped. Arrange with the seller to have the cost of shipping deducted from the piece your buying and pay it yourself and schedule a pickup. So all shipping costs/insurance and coverage are in the buyer's name.

If a seller is advertising a piece of gear for $700.00, but wants the buyer to pay the additional shipping charges; schedule with the seller for a pick-up. That way, everything is in the buyers name.

Guys I used to send stuff via UPS i was paying 50-80$ a hour , average was about 60$.

I now use USPS never had a issue , i had delivery confirmation and insurance and its usually tops 35$ parcel post and that takes 1 1/2 weeks tops to get to like new york , so a few bucks less for a few more days but alot of times it has literally beat UPS in time.

With any shiping company, the shipper has to file the claim. May be office depot not filing the claim in a timely manner or not caring much about it. Ups will usually pay up with big accounts like them. The first step is to contact the shipper when you get damaged items. And yes, I do work for UPS.
