UPS update: yep they still suck at doing their job.

I can confirm. Supposedly they made a delivery attempt to me yesterday, according to yesterday's tracking, but they certainly didn't leave me a notice of delivery attempt.

Then I had the day off today and figured I'd wait around the house for delivery as I can do any other stuff over the weekend.

It was a beautiful day, so I was sitting out on our second floor porch...and at just past three the UPS truck pulled up outside...and dropped a package off across the street. I figured he'd head back to the truck, then to my place. Nope. Right back into the truck and away...

Tracking shows a second attempt made at 3.11, which was the time I was watching.

A call to UPS and some time hitting zero to get to a real person and they act like 'oh no...we couldn't have done that...you mean no delivery notices either?' We'll call you back sometime...

Good job being incompetent again UPS!

I'd call UPS again ... and ask for the supervisior.

Just about the same thing happened to me ... UPS delivered my bass to the wrong address! I was tracking it at the time ... watched the Brown Truck drive past my house ... then saw it was delivered. I immediately called ... once I got someone on the line, I asked for the supervisor. Gave him a bit of hell. Next thing you know, the UPS guy was at my door.

I've had a couple of issues with UPS ... now I use and ask for FedEX whenever possible.

I know what "Brown can do for me" ... SCREW UP!

UPS told us they delivered the package to us and my grandma who had died 2 months before hand signed the package. Call them back and demand they tell you whats up like the person above me said talk to a supervisor because they actually make good money and the people above them if it ends up going to them will fire them and they don't want to lose a job right now at all. Make their life miserable because its miserable waiting for a package. We had to talk to them and tell them my grandma died so it wasn't possible, it ends up it was in the truck WTH? no idea but yeah do it, or while he's delivering to someone else go into the truck and look yourself.

3 days ago they shipped my package to my neighbor. This seems to happen a lot with UPS.

UPS did call me back from local. I talked to a manager and explained again that not only did the driver not leave any notice of attempt, but that at the supposed time listed on the tracking that I wasn't available...that I was at home and watching the UPS driver not deliver.

As with the regular national rep, I was polite but pretty firm that I was upset about how they were operating. The manager sent the driver back to my house at 7 something, and again I was on the porch watching. I watched him go up several front walks before he came to my place (my address is clearly visible on the front of the house and only about 15 feet from the street).

Anyway, no apology but he did have TWO packages. One of which was for my housemate, that listed three delivery attempts, of course, none of which had been done.

Good for UPS management for sending the driver back to do his job correctly. A big bad for the driver who couldn't be bothered to try to deliver our stuff on three different days until he got heat from management.

***I just hit zero for each automated phone menu to get to a real person. It doesn't work for all businesses, but it does for some!

The fact that someone made a thread about a specific package having poor service shows that the expectations for the company are fairly high and that this was an anomaly.

UPS delivers millions of packages daily. There will be the occasional error, and occasionally a bad egg who doesn't do his/her job correctly. The overwhelming odds suggest that your package will be delivered just as it should.

I have low expectations for UPS...that's why I carefully track everything.

They left my Dingwall on my front porch and had a neighbor down the street sign for it a couple years ago. Luckily I was tracking it every 10 minutes or so at the time so that I knew that 'signed' didn't mean safe.

ya, they pretty much do suck for two (probably more) specific reasons:

1. no po box delivery.

2. i bought my first ever tv (samsung ln46b650!!!!!!!!!) and they started to ship it to new york, though it got as far as illinois before they sent it back to me (south sf bay area, ca). note: it had been shipped from washington and is a very/somewhat fragile piece of electronics. at the very least, if it breaks later i cant do sh*t about it. i will never use them if i can help it. their freight sucks.

usps is my favorite. no problems with fedex, just a bit pricier.

Can't really blame UPS or FedEx for that. The postal service won't allow an outside carrier to deliver to a PO Box.

I've never had a problem with UPS. At the diesel shop I work, I get all the incoming and outgoing shipments...that's 100's of pounds of product every day. I also previously worked at car dealerships, and again, things always came and went on schedule.
I ship all my basses out using them, and they always got delivered to where they're going right on time.
I've even had to call UPS to stop delivery on the day it's supposed to arrive at it's destination, and they happily obliged and sent it right back to me.

Sorry to hear about the experience Burning Skies, but your local delivery driver is just a bad employee.

I think that UPS probably doesn't do as good a job with residential shipments as some other companys. For businesses at a business address (i.e. not a home business), they are by far the best. FedEx and DHL are just plain old inconsistent with deliveries, especially on ground shipments. I'm lucky that I have a cool boss that lets me ship everything to and from work. Haven't had a problem yet, and I always know that the package will be singed for no matter what. I never ship to my home address. Always business. It's just safer that way.

Sorry to hear about your troubles with them. Like I said, UPS isn't the greatest when it comes to residential shipments IMO. It doesn't help that you got and incompetent driver either.

+1 to this whole thing. I've never had a problem with UPS but I've only used them to ship stuff twice, and I usually use my business address for important items. At work they are the most reliable, the guy is there every day between 9 and 9:15 (it helps that we're right down the street from a UPS depot and are probably his first stop). It's usually the other shippers we have issues with, FedEx drops packages at the wrong door all the time (there are multiple offices in the building).
