Pretty crappy the way Pete Carroll did all the dirt, then bailed and left the school holding the bag for it.

I'm no fan of USC, but this is just not a fair situation, IMO.

Pssh. What about UT and what Lane did to them? Hate to say, but they are getting what they deserve.

While Reggie kisses his ring and Petey jokes around about maple donuts, the kids left behind suffer. I wish there was a better way to punish schools.

Maybe they could make Pete pay his 2004 salary back, or make Reggie pay his scholarship back. Chump change to both of those guys now.

Carrol dosed USC in kerosene, lit a match, and ran.

I haven't done any research on this, but it just doesn't seem to fit that Pete Carroll was able to do all of this stuff on his own without the knowledge/approval of the Athletic Director or whatever there. I could very well be wrong though, which is why this whole thing feels wrong to me, but still.

I'm not saying he was the only one doing it. Carrol and the AD both had to know exactly what was going on. I don't blame the players cause I wouldn't make it their responsibility to know what the NCAA says the can and cannot get from the schools. It is up to the school to convey that message.

All I meant by my comment was that Carrol is at least partially responsible for this mess and he walked out before it exploded in his face. Now it's up to the AD to deal with it. All Carrol will say when asked about it is "That's in the past, I have to focus on the Seahawks now".

Seemed odd how he suddenly accepted the Seattle job over the weekend without any prior speculation or rumors that he was interested. Now we see why...

USC got what they wanted at the time, money and wins. They were willing to take the chance back then, and it finally caught up to them. Two postseason bans in years they probably wouldn't been legitimate NCG contenders is no big deal down there.

So the only wrong doing I could gather out of that article and subsequent diatribe in this thread was Reggie Bush got some kickbacks as part of the recruitment process from HS to NCAA. The article is pretty murky and to an outsider (myself) it seems like there should be a lot more than that to punish kids (forfeited scholarships, post season ban) that may have done nothing wrong, which begs the question,..."what am I missing here?"

Just like Kelvin Sampson at OU and IU, and Eddie Sutton at Kentucky. Nothing says "We're guilty" like "I'm outta here!"

I have to admit that seeing Lane Kiffin get stuck in this situation is funny. USC knew what they had with Pete Carroll. They had their dance, now they have to pay the piper.

This.

Even if it Lane Kiffin, still not fair.

So do they have to give up the 2004 NC and return the rings?

Most likely. And Reggie will most likely have to give up his Heisman.

Really feel bad for them and i dont like USC at all.

Lane Kiffin won't even know they are banned from postseason. He doesn't go to bowl games anyway.

What did Pete Carroll have to do with O.J. Mayo? He got paid too, just like Reggie did. Not a football player though. Hmmmm

IMO, this is not Carroll's fault, though he certainly did nothing to stop it, if he knew about it. And, if he didn't know about it, I think it was only because he didn't WANT to know about it. This was a systemic problem with the culture at USC and it spread across their entire athletic dept. The AD is far more culpable in this than any coach and they are getting their just desserts.

I bet they'll have to vacate the '04 BCS title and Bush Push's Heisman if they're having to forfeit regular season games. Not sure how that would add up otherwise.

If Bush does lose his Heisman Vince will not be receiving it as he wants nothing to do with this situation. The Heisman will therefore be vacated.

Yeah I wouldn't think they'd re-award. We know who the best player at year's end was, though... The one holding the BCS trophy.

Which is why the Heisman should be handed out after the bowl games.

Indeed. In every other sport you get a post-season award. NCAAF is way too antsy with something so prestigious. Especially when you have the 1.A and 1.B players competing against each other in the final game of the year.
