Using craigslist to help start a band???

Sign in to disble this ad
I have never tried to start a band using craigslist before, but tonight, I broke down. Im in a rock band at the moment thats pretty freaking awesome, but Ive REALLY wanted to start up a Stoner Rock/Doom band for a very long time. Anyways, heres my ad:

Im a 23 year old bass player whos looking to start up a new original Stoner Rock/Doom project. If Sabbath, Electric Wizard, Kyuss, High on Fire, Isis, Bongzilla, Baroness, Mastodon, Trouble, Acid Bath, Om, Orange Goblin, Tourche, The Sword, Down, The Atomic Bitchwax, The Melvins, Sleep etc etc is youre thing, give me a shout and lets make something happen. Its about time the swamps of VA get their own respectable swamp band. Im in another original group at the moment, but have plenty of time to practice and make music. Ive been playing for 14 years now and have nice equipment and all that jazz and am very serious about making music. So if big amps and even bigger riffs are your thing, give me a ring and lets make something happen.

My cell is _________ and my email is ____________

ask for ___________

hopefully some cool/like minded/talented musicians respond....

have you all ever had luck finding musicians on craigslist? I live in a very populated area of VA so hopefully some people will bite...

I think it's a great idea. CL is getting more hits than ever with all the press lately. Good luck!

I've never started a band via CL, but I have found several bands/projects that way. Every time I've posted an ad I've gotten a ton of responses from bands looking for a bass player. Of course, the time I posted that I was looking for a jazz/funk project, I got back two offers to join/audition for thrash metal bands so be aware you'll likely get some strange replies.

The only thing I'd recommend is not posting your actual or primary email address. I usually use something like spaces between each character and "at" instead of @ just so my email doesn't get picked up by bots.

Something you may also try is Myspace, if you have one. I've auditioned a couple of drummers through their classifieds, and met up with a guitarist once (which went terribly). Jacksonville also happens to have a forum purely for its music scene called Jaxbands.com. So who knows, there might be one like it for your area as well.

I can't say I've ever used craigslist, and I've never been in that area of it before. But its worth a shot.

We got our old singer off of craigslist. It worked out for a long time, though he eventually had to leave the band for personal matters.

Ultimately though, he wasn't crazy and could actually sing, so it worked out. Just be careful haha

i've gotten together with my current band and the one before it through craigslist. I just make sure when looking that they provide a link with some music (like a myspace) and contact them through that first. It's worked great for me!

If memory serves, I was a CL find for my band.

This should really be in the Band Management forum though.

Just ask lots of questions in your subsequent communications. I've been in awkward situations before with CL. A lot of weirdos can come out of the woodwork.
