Vacations....

Sign in to disble this ad
How do you like to vacation? My wife and I have always had a hard time finding a happy medium on this.

Me....I like to go places where I know someone or have family. I like to get out and drive around to check out the local scene and attractions. I usually like to cram as much activity into a day as I can.

My wife.....likes to go places where we don't know anyone and can be true tourists. If we are near a beach, then she likes to lay out on the beach for hours at a time and relax.

my vacations have always been to stay home and catch up on sleep. i'm being serious, too. lame, i know, but for me, i just want to rest.

traveling stresses me out, even when it's a new place or somewhere i've always wanted to go to. i'm not normal, but TB already knows this.

I love to go exploring on vacations. I always try to go places I've never been or places I really love.

i'm with you, but a comprimise can be found. try and finagle it such that you go somewhere where you don't know people but have people you know/want to see that live sort of near by (a couple states over, whatever) come over and visit you on vacation. sort of like timing your vacations to places with other family/friends. my parents have done this numerous times and it's worked out quite well. infact they're going on an alaskan cruise out of vancouver this summer and they'll be going with my dad's sister (and her husband), who will meet them in vancouver (they're flying over from england!). then while you're on vacation you could spend the day doing lots of touristy things, then in the evening relax on the beach/in the lodge/wherever, or alternate days of doing stuff with days of relaxation. yes it is a hassle to organize but it's the ulitmate win win.

This year I'm taking my family on a small-boat cruise in the upper Amazon River. Very remote. Lots of wildlife and hiking in pretty much otherwise inaccessible areas. Should be awesome.

We just went to chicago for the first time. None of us(me and my wife) knew anyone there. It was a blast just riding the bus and the L around exploring.

My vacations vary. Sometimes I want to go out and explore the town and be as active as possible, and other times all I want to do is lay around the hotel or beach(if I`m near one).

I find a happy medium is going out to the local bars and hot spots so that I can lay around(to an extent), yet still see the local sights and meet the common folk.

I don't even know what a vacation is... haven't had one in years.

In 2010, I have 22 days off of work including vacation carried over from this year and four floating holidays. How am I going to fill them all? For me, working is normal, and I've never really been one to take vacations.

I love to travel, but hate spending money on it. I'm trying to find that happy medium for me. Maybe I'll do Sturgis this year.

I head for cold wet places where it rains as much as possible and is pretty much dark all the time. This new year I'm going to Scotland.

I'm also taking a 5 friends, a drysuit, a kayak and as much port as I can fit in my car

A week vacation off of work I'll spend enough money at the liquor store in the miserable weather that starting next year I've decided I might as well get an all inclusive trip to a tropical resort for the same price and drink my face off on the beach. Can't believe I never did before.

I love the Caribbean. Cruise ship or island is fine by me. The Pacific Northwest is uber cool too.

My wife is the same way.

Last summer, we went to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic in the
Caribbean. It was my first time ever to the Caribbean. I thought I would
like it but I ended up loving it. It was an all-inclusive resort so all food
and drinks were paid for in a very affordable price. I think the workers
make about $2 per hour (and consider themselves lucky to get that much).
Tip these guys (and girls) $5 and they are your best friends all week.

We went snorkling, scuba diving, ATV riding, swimming (of course),
shopping, horseback riding, played volley ball and played water polo.
My wife spent most of her days laying in the sun. I spent most of my
nights in the casino playing Blackjack.

They have shows and a good bit of live music (although most bands
lacked a bass player). My whole family didn't want to leave.

I pretty much only take "staycations" unless I'm going to visit family elsewhere. I just love where I live and taking time off work allows me to enjoy more of it.
