Ok, i havent seen a thread like this here, so I'll start.

Tomorrow im going to Edisto Island south Carolina. Really really tiny beach, not touristy at all, and most important to us bassists, birthplace of James Jamerson Ive been going all my life (its our family tradition on my moms side, same beach house everyyear) and i just learned this last year.

So where is everybody else going this summer?

I leave for 2 weeks of Irish bliss in September!! My first really good vacation in a lot of years. My first time overseas since I returned from a stint in the Army, in Germany, in 1992. I'm really looking forward to it. I've done a little research and my Irish ancestor's originally came from the Cavan County area.

we have a gig down at the seashore in a few weeks. Since it's a sort of long drive for us, I'm packing the whole family and making a weekend out of it. Should be a lot of fun, I may even try surfing, god forbid.

We went to Hilton Head last year, and that's a beautiful area of the country. Enjoy!

We went to Disneyworld two weeks ago and had a blast. (We have a 6-year-old son.) Next year will be a more relaxing vacation for sure.

A vacation? In this economy? Surely you jest.

If the wife and I are lucky, we're hoping to squirrel away enough by September to take a long weekend in Wisconsin. Before then, there's nothing on the radar. One daughter just graduating college and another starting in the fall leaves precious little cash for anything but bills. I could gig 5 nights a week between now and then on top of both our day jobs and it still wouldn't be enough.

A week of Ireland! Plan on visiting the Cork / Kerry areas, do some sightseeing, some light hiking. Btw, if anyone has some good (not-too-saturated-with tourists) suggestions for things to do, feel free to PM me!

The wife, myself and some friends are going up to Redding this weekend. Checking out Mt. Shasta, Shasta lake and all the sheep that are running around up there. Never really done real "Vacations," though I want to. 3 days in Redding is about the most vacationing I've ever done

I hope to get to kayak the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway from Mobile Bay over to Panama City, FL. I think that will have to wait until next spring, though. I don't think I'll have that much free time this year, so realistically I will probably only get to do a few 2-3 day kayak/canoe trips around the Alabama coastal rivers/bays.

Indeed. Oil has already breached some of the bays/coves/bayous, but nothing catastrophic yet. Key word yet.

My Girlfriend and her family actually are in texas, dealing with tar balls and now the hurricane passing through i think at corpus christi. SO theyre haveing an eventful vacation
and I was expecting more laidback small vacations, Im like one of the only one of my friends who hasnt gone to ireland, and seems a few here are too. Im jealous haha.
Edisto is really great. Nothing to do but spend time with family and friends and meet interesting people. And there's a serpentarium. WHich is fun haha.

This year I went to England and France during spring break. My brother did a semester abroad in London so I had a free room while I was there. Thank goodness for trains.

I went here -
The house is 100 yds from the Gulf. Three awesome days . . .

. . .and then the oil started washing ashore.

Luckily we can walk to the bay

After last night's storm, the beach looks a lot better.

Will be spending the first week in August in Lake Charles, Louisiana with my incredible fiancee. No specific plans...just be together, do whatever we want to.

Might spend a few nights on the AT or go camping with friends...or both. Not much else, really.
