| Yeah, VBS is a 5 day long bible school for elementary age kids. We've always tried to be over the top with our decorations because the kids love 'em, but we have a group of ladies that are very "protective" of our fellowship hall and limited our use after they renovated the hall. So we can't hang stuff on the walls or do anything that would put a hole in the interior or mark up the paint.
I also build sets in one of the classrooms to go with the nights bible story, which is usually done in the form of a skit. That is harder, because the set changes each night with the story. I've had Roman prisons, caves that the kids crawl through, river scenes, camp sites, etc.
Our next big project in the main room will be a 20' tall rocket in the middle of the room. I'll put some photos up as we get that built.
I really enjoy this stuff because it works the problem solving skills and requires a lot of creativity to design a set that will impress kids and adults, relate the theme to everyone, and not cause lasting damage to the room. I used to act in community theater groups, but there are none in this town, so once a year I get to go to VBS, build sets and play bible characters |
