The Verge of Perfection NFL!

Sign in to disble this ad
The Detroit Lions are on the verge of accomplishing something no other NFL team in history has, 0-16. We are 0-10 with no softies left on the schedule. It is often said that it's easier to go 16-0 then 0-16, so screw you Patriot fans! My feeling is go for it. Finally an accomplishment that fits the franchise.

The remaining schedule is The Bucs, Titans on Thanksgiving day, Vikings, Colts, Saints, and Packers. The only chances I see to screw it up are the Vikqqueens or the Packers in last game of the season if they are out of the playoff hunt. All of the Lions remaining rivals are fighting for playoff spots. I also suspect that the motivation to not be the first team to lose to this sorry bunch will be more and more of a factor as the season progresses.

Well the Lions took another step yesterday. They jumped out to a 17-0 lead over the Bucs and still found a way to lose. That is certainly a special talent. The sad thing is they don't quit, they just suck that bad. With the Titans losing the Lions have the only shot at perfection in the entire NFL this year. I really don't see how they can win this season. I mean the rest of the teams they play are in the NFL. And I don't see the league allowing U of M to fill in for any of the teams the rest of the way.

I'm not even sure the Lions could beat them.

So, who are you hoping they draft with the number 1 pick? I'm interested, because I live in Cincinnati, and am curious to see who the bengals may get at number 2 or 3 . . .

Too late for the Bucs, dream on for the Saints (who will close the gap by winning tonight in the 'Dome )

I'm actually surprised. I really thought we'd see some sort of surge after the demise of Millen.

I see them beating someone. I don't know who, but someone! Another team is going to face them, thinking it will be a cakewalk, and they'll get trounced. Happens every year (i.e. Superbowl XLII )

Let's recap some Bengals drafts, I'll just throw out names from no deeper than the first three rounds.

Jerome Simpson (from football powerhouse Coastal Carolina) 1 catch for 2 yards this season.
Kenny Irons . . .
Odell Thurman
Chris Henry
Chris Perry - Injury, injury, injury.
Keiwan Ratliff - Good player, just no longer with the Bengals.
Madieu Williams - Great player, no longer with the Bengals.
Eric Steinbach - all-pro lineman, just not with the Bengals.
Lamont Thompson - Who?
Justin Smith - no longer with the Bengals
Sean Brewer - Who?
Peter Warrick
Mark Roman
Ron Dugans
Akili Smith
Takeo Spikes
Reinard Wilson (that's a first rounder)
Marco Battaglia
Ki-Jana Carter (number 1 overall)
"Big Daddy" Dan Wilkinson (number 1 overall)
David Klingler

"They" say that winless teams are the most dangerous.

I think I remember a REALLY good Packers team losing to a winless Colts team...

I see young Matthew Stafford of Georgia going to the Lions and toiling in frozen obscurity for several years and retiring as the Greg Landry of the 21st century.

I voted no because I would love to see the impossible, and watch them beat Tenessee on Thanksgiving.

My guess is with the signing of Culpepper, the drafting of Stanton two years ago, and Olivsky looking half way decent if they had any sense they would draft Andre Smith (LT AL). They have not had a dominant Offensive of Defensive lineman in years. They simply can't block or tackle.

But then again, we don't have a GM, so who knows? We don't even know who will be evaluating talent or making the pick. If they keep with tradition, they'll go with best drug addicted wide receiver available. Because ewe all know you can't have enough wide receivers in the NFL. I say that because we have spent four out of the last five first rounds picking wide receivers.

I really thought they were going to disappoint me and sneak up on some team that took them for granted. But they have tried really hard most every game. They just are really, really, really, really bad. They can't tackle, Warwick Dunn looked like Barry Sanders yesterday. And they've had a couple of key injuries to the mediocre defensive lineman they had. I'm not sure that they could beat someone who did take them for granted. I realize the difference in between most NFL teams is not that great, but I'm not sure their are four guys on this team that could start for ANY other NFL team. And I'm including the kicker as one of those four!

Every week I say it and every week I'm disappointed again. "This is the week we win one!" haha Yesterday they came out storming, the D scored a TD (!) and were up 17-0. Then they lose. My Lions fan son thinks it's hilarious but he's also getting frustrated. I tell him imagine the folks that haven't seen success for many years. I've been getting beat up by this team since the 70s and I can't stop. Bastards. I do hope they take the prize of 0-16 though. Then maybe old man Ford will shake his lousy franchise up. Dropping Millen was the first step. Next Maronelli goes and we start rebuilding, again. RESTORE THE ROAR!

The Titans are reeling, on a monumental losing streak! I think it would be appropriate for the Lions to take it to 'em on Thanksgiving day. The Titans don't have a chance!

I have long been waiting for a team to run the table backwards. Who cares about (or even remembers) teams that go 2-14 or 1-15? Big deal. If you're going to suck, go all out and do it with style.

C'mon, Detroit, be memorable!!!
