Verizon Blackberry Storm - Any Good?

Sign in to disble this ad
Anyone sign up and get the Verizon Blackberry Storm yet? I've been thinking about this for my wife for Christmas, but I haven't heard any real opinions one way or the other.

It looks pretty cool, and since we have a long relationship with Verizon I'd rather avoid the AT&T/i-Phone deal altogether. Not 100% sure what the total package price is, either .....

Any opinions?

No Wifi may be an issue.

I'm having the same dilemma... AT&T/iPhone or keep Verizon and get the Storm. I need a world phone and I like the fact that the Storm will work on GSM networks overseas while using Verizon CONUS, but it just doesn't seem like it's as refined a product as the iPhone. OTOH, I've heard a few people complaining about their quality of service with AT&T/iPhone.

Any comments from you smartphone junkies out there?

I'm curious too. I have the Curve (Sprint), and would like to read some info on the Storm. Mine doesn't have WiFi either, but I have unlimited data transfer, so other than a speed issue, it's no big deal. Mine also has internal GPS, which I'd much prefer over WiFi (if I had to choose). The Curves had WiFi or GPS, depending on provider. I don't think any offered both.

From what I've heard, current iterations have a laggy response time with the touch screen.

This concerns me, since my upgrade is due in March and I wanted a Storm, but I have a feeling by then technical issues like that might be worked out.

I have a Q9c. I noticed someone has the same phone as me for sale in the classifieds here at TB in the non-bass items forum. He mentiones he got a Storm. Maybe you could see what he thinks too?

We used to have AT&T but we live in a sort of "dead zone" in our home area. We couldn't use the phone in our house or back yard, so we had to walk out the front door to get a decent signal. AT&T kept on promising to fix the issue, but it never got any better (and it still suxs based on friends that come over with AT&T phones) ...

Verizon works great ....

Just saw a commercial about this phone and it looks kinda cool. I'd like to hear if it's any good also.

I heard the same, by my upgrade isn't due until October and I just got a new pearl (thank you insurance) so I should be good until they work out the bugs.

Well I dont have the Blackberry Storm, but I do have Verizon's Voyager, which has a lot of the same features, and I have to say its freakin awesome. And they had a great deal last week, so with my upgrade it only cost me $30.

It doesnt have WiFi, but it is on Verizons 3G network, which at times can be better than WiFi, it has a pretty good response time in regards to its internet use, and mobile TV is pretty awesome (especially comedy central)

that is all

Having just played with a co worker's just yesterday, I will say they need to get on the update patches, stat. Yes, it is laggy, and hers had constant sim card problems too. She looked for firmware updates, and found one that improved it a tad...from what she told me at day's end.

I DO like the whole click the screen thing, and the nav is good on it, has most of the important iPhone type features, the music player sounds good, the browser is nice, screen looks good, I like Blackberrys in general so I know the quality is good, but maybe wait for a second gen or more stable firmware upgrades??? I've played with a few iPhones too, and can say they are comparable, if not a bit more "refined" as Apple tends to be.

No info on the Storm, but the Curve on Sprint has worked great for me. Service has been consistently good in Northern Colorado, Eastern Washington and other areas I've visited. And who needs Wi-Fi when you have a data plan?

Main drawback of the BB Curve is that it's a business tool, not for entertainment. Audio and video from outside sources basically don't work, and BB has the suckiest web browser in history. Everyone downloads Opera Mini which is slightly less sucky.

My mom just got the curve, I'll be going home tomorrow to pick up some stuff, and I'll play with it and get back to you.

I've had my iPhone for nearly four months and have no complaints except for the dust under the glass. I've yet to have a chance to take it to Apple to get a replacement.

Needless to say, I despise AT&T, the service is sub-par around here, and I wish the Storm came out sooner so I could've remained with Verizon.

I have a Storm on the way and have tested at least 15 and the new firmware update was very significant. I figured that if they can do that much with one update then it'll get even better. It still does have a tiny bit of lag but once you get the phone warmed up a little, it's not even noticeable.

If you're on Verizon and want to update, I strongly recommend the Storm. Killer phone.

I love my Sprint Curve. Not much I dislike about it at all, if anything!

Why don't you like the BB browser? I don't think it's bad, and like it much more than Opera's. I tried that for a few weeks and ultimately deleted it.
