VHS to DVD?

I have some VHS tapes that I want to convert to DVD. Years ago I had an ADS Tech conversion box but it stopped working. I know there are still some such products on the market including some that are just basically cables, but it seems like the reviews are really hit or miss and I don't want to waste my money.

Recommendations?

I like using the Canopus ADVC-100, you might find one used on EBay.
Great device for any analog conversion.
