Villains for the next Batman movie...

So some of us have seen Batman films. Some of us are huge fans. Myself included.

In retrospect, I didn't care too much for Tim Burton's films. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy most of his other films, but I am not a fan of his take. I found the first one boring, and Batman Returns was pretty dark and twisted, the only thing that really made it a Batman film was, well, Batman himself. Still, I thought it was pretty good.

He's better than Joel Schumacher, though. Joel puts so many gay jokes in both Batman Forever and Batman & Robin. I mean, was it really necessary to have nipples on the Batsuit?? But as horrible as Batman & Robin was, I don't agree with all the negative nancies who belive that it's like the coming of the antichrist. To me, it's little more than a spoof comedy, like the original Casino Royale with Peter Sellers.

Of course, neither Burton nor Schumacher are fit to even scrub the floors of Christopher Nolan. His take on Batman is the greatest I have seen. I grew up with the 60's TV series and the Schumacher films beforehand (I was too young for the Tim Burton films), but Chris Nolan and Christian Bale is the way to go for REAL Batman.

Now, due to the Dark Knight's outstanding box-office sales and reviews, coupled with its cliffhanger ending, I believe that there are more than enough aspects to warrant a sequel. The question is, will Chris Nolan return? And if so, which villains shall Batman be up against?

I have heard writer David S. Goyer state that he would prefer not to use villains like Catwoman or the Penguin, because they've already been portrayed onscreen. Well then, how do you explain the Joker and Two-Face?

Plus, all three directors had their own vision, and I think it would be interesting to see Nolan's take on previous villains. Not to mention the fact that some of them weren't interpreted very well.

My personal choices?

The Penguin - Timothy Spall
Catwoman - Kate Beckinsale/Rachel Weisz
The Riddler - Johnny Depp/David Tennant/Noel Fielding
Mr. Freeze - Daniel Craig/Ewan McGregor
Poison Ivy - Rose McGowan/Ali Larter
Bane - No idea

They're stale. I hope they come up with something new. HollyWood can do that, right?

I think Christopher Nolan has already said he won't be returning, and if I'm remembering right most of the cast in the newest two won't come back if he's not at the helm.

Yeah, and Hollywood can also improve on previous ****-storms, like the Incredible Hulk movie.

And for the record, Two-Face was also stale until The Dark Knight.

Oh, could you give us a reference?

As far as I know, he's still in negotiations.

I say they need to create a new villain and have Christopher Walken play the role.

or have Christopher Walken play the Mad Hatter.

A new villan?

How about "The Interrupter"? He's a mild mannered director of photography by day but throws all his enemies into a rage with his relentless duh-duh-duh'ing by night.

Rumor had it that Phillip Seymour-Hoffman was being given consideration for the Penguin role. I thought the Danny Devito mutant-style Penguin was ridiculous. PSH could play it a lot closer to the comic book version and pull it off IMO.

Phillip Seymour Hoffman - Penguin
Johnny Depp - Riddler (or possibly replacement joker)
Micky Rourke - Mr Freeze / Bane

Why not throw in a lesser known like

Steve Buscemi - Calendar Man

On a more superficial level, I have to ask the question: How many good third movies in a franchise can people name? [Laughs.] At the same time, in taking on the second one, we had the challenge of trying to make a great second movie, and there haven't been too many of those either. It’s all about the story really. If the story is there, everything is possible. I hope that was a suitably slippery answer.

On one hand, yeah, there is a certain feeling to do [something smaller]," he said. "After Batman Begins, I certainly felt like taking on something smaller, but one of the things I got such a thrill from on The Dark Knight was shooting on Imax and creating that massive scale and achieving that larger-than-life quality. So that's a lot of fun. I'm drawn in both directions now. So maybe what I need to do next is a very intimate, small story that happens to be photographed on a ridiculously large scale. Or vice versa.
