Volvo afficianados, question for you...
So... anyone have a line on a very specific Bosch fuel computer? It turns out that the 240 wagon in my custody and care is the Rainbow Unicorn of Volvos. It's a 1991 *stick shift*.
For some reason Volvo, in their infinite wisdom, changed the fuel injection system, and thus the fuel computer, for *only* the stick shift 240s from '91 to '93, or so. Naturally, this is the part that has failed on my car...
Because it is so rare neither Volvo nor Bosch nor any of the usual aftermarket manufacturers made this particular fuel computer in any kind of volume, and haven't made any at all in many years.
Daisy Wagen, my excellent local shop, is on the case, but since, via the wonders of the innertubes, I'm acquainted with folks far and wide, I thought I'd see if any of you out there might provide some assistance (lookin' at y'all in Europe, especially). Thanks!
*damn, I can't spell*

Don't know specifically, but you might check IPD
, if not for the part, at least for reference. They have a lot of tech tips, compatibility guides, and links to community. Good luck!

Yeah, my shop is well plugged-in and even they are having, thus far, no luck.

This would be the perfect time to rip out that weak kneed 4 banger and shove a tuned port 350 under the hood. The ultimate sleeper.... :ninja:

If Mike says it it must be true!

Turbobricks is to Volvo what talkbass is to bass.
Somebody there will know where to find one, or have one for sale.

Give Larry a call at Rainbow in Bellingham. If he doesn't have it, probably nobody has it. Hey, he found a heater fan for my 1973 1800ES.
734-6oneone7, Bham area code.

Thanks blastoff, I'll give them a shot tomorrow.

Do you have a part number for the defective unit?
|Marial ||08-29-2013 05:00 PM |
Got it sorted. Friends on a Moto Guzzi forum I'm on pointed me to two different parts places (never would have found them on my own) and I ordered a used ECU from one, and will get the old one repaired at another spot. Just have to wait for it to come and then the car will hopefully be good to go with a spare in hand.
Btw, blastoff, I'm still going to call your guy in Bellingham, I need some parts for my '66 Merc 230S...

Glad you got the part ordered. Bummer about interesting cars... sometimes parts availability is not so much.
Larry only does Volvo, so he can't help you on your merc, unfortunately.

Funny thing about the Volvo is there's absolutely nothing interesting about it, other than because of its date of manufacture and the fact that it has a manual transmission, it has a few parts that are, as it turns, pretty damn rare.
As for the merc, there's Pelican and I think there's a good parts place on Aurora here in Seattle, too.
