I thumbed through an chapter or two at a bookstore a while back. It seemed like an interesting premise that focused as much on the day to day life of survivors and their drama as it did on the horror, which is nice compared to most zombie/horror models which have a 90 minute arc to tell their story in and are tied up with maintaining conventions of the genre. The book and presumably the show will have a serial setting which gives an opportunity to have much more developed characters, and as a result really examine the finer points instead of just brain eating gorefests with disposable protagonists.
Did I also mention that I'm incredibly pleased that they're using the lurching zombies instead of the runners?

All in all you just missed a bunch of punks drinking way too much and puking all up and down Detroit Ave. (and my sober self frantically running around trying to take care of everyone)
haha

After talking to Tony (the original artist for the books) about it, he said after reading the script to the first episode, he thought the writing was better than the comic books.

Your friend did a GREAT job with the books too. I'm also not much for graphic novels, but these really are awesome!

Not to mention, he's an awesome guy. We used to go to the shooting range her in KC with zombie prints as our targets. The shooting range folks didn't know what to do with us, so they left us alone.

From the creators fo The Sopranos and someone else... it starred Steve Buscemi, Michael Pitt, and others as alcohol smugglers in the roaring twenties. Looked like it could be a decent series.

It's also in serial format which is new for the zombie genre, since most of its works are limited to 90 minute stretches.
It's also being produced by a top shelf cable television network which is a good sign for quality production values.
These two items set this apart from pretty much every other entry in the zombie ouevre.
