Just bought this album today and I'm trying to listen to the whole thing in order. Good album... Trying to get into Pink Floyd and decided i'd buy this album then maybe Dark Side of the Moon. Anyone listen to this whole album all the way through in one sitting?

That being said, I can barely listen to The Wall anymore. It is Roger Waters at his most ridiculous. Ultra-bombastic and preachy. The Trial is one of the most absurd songs I have ever listened to.
Since you have already purchased it I can't tell you to stop. But I will recommend PF's earlier stuff with Syd as well as albums such as Meddle.

If you're getting into Pink Floyd, Dark Side is a good choice. If you really want to "get" The Wall I suggest you watch the movie as well.
Other great albums: Animals (my favourite), Wish You Were Here, Meddle, The Final Cut

I only bought the wall because i knew more songs off of it than i did off of dark side (only knew money off of that one.) but yeah i'd have to say the 1st half is better but i just finish listening to the whole thing and i like it a lot.

Best Floyd songs, in my opinion. |

Those seem to be the classics for many PF fans.
However, if you're more adventurous, I'd suggest Umma Gumma (my favorite), Piper At The Gates Of Dawn (their first), or Meddle (which is where PF starts to become the PF that most people know). |

Because of such, I've amassed quite a few Pink Floyd related shirts. However, my tastes have changed and I'm listening to much different stuff now. That and I haven't gotten a Pink Floyd shirt recently because I see too many kids around school with them, and it just kind of takes away from the pride because I'm sure they only know Another Brick in the Wall Pt. 2.
But I digress. I would have recommended Dark Side of the Moon for a first listening. I think it's a very good summary of what Pink Floyd sounds like. Their earlier stuff is a little more psychadelic, and their later stuff sounds progressively more R&B (in my opinion, of course. I think this is David Gilmour's preferred sound). The Wall is good I think until Waiting For the Worms. After that, it just gets ridiculous and a little unlistenable. The first half is good aside from the filler after Another Brick in the Wall Pt. 2. Don't Leave Me Now is also very much unlistenable. In my opinion, of course.
Other albums I recommend are Wish You Were Here, The Division Bell, Obscured By Clouds, and Relics if you want to get a feel for their earlier sounding stuff. Actually, I think Echoes (their 'best of' compilation) is also a great place to get a feel for how they sound. I actually used it to listen to some tracks off of The Division Bell (I absolutely refused to download any of their albums or songs) to get me pumped up before I went out and purchased a copy of it.

Ummagumma - Live - Space Music - 2 CD's
Meddle - "Echo's" [23:00] - Abstract Floyd Stuff
These are all Super Excellent!
If you like the "Wall" - you must see the movie too!

Strangely, Vera is my favorite cut off the Wall, stunningly beautiful, that feedback squawk midway through gives me the chills. I'm more a fan of their early "Hippie" stuff, they got into some weird weird jams back in the day. But in terms of PINK FLOYD as they are known to the mainstream: Animals is where it's at. (Super Cheese ahead) This album made me want to be a better person (/cheese off). It's an excellent portrayal of the evils of humanity. Lyrically and conceptually (IMO) Pink Floyd's best, but being a weirdo, I like their weirder stuff.

Dark Side is a good album though I love PF's really nutty early stuff more. When Syd Barrett was with them. |

I also greatly enjoy Animals, Meddle and Wish You Were Here. A plethora of amazing songs throughout all of those albums.

Also make sure you got Pulse after getting Dark Side of the Moon&Wish You Were Here. You've gotta see/listen how awesome the are live and what Guy Pratt adds to the music with his bass.

It's just there's some songs on there that I wouldn't classify as being musical. But I think Nobody Home is extremely beautiful sounding.
The actual film is definitely a trip. It's very interesting, although some of it is just like "What the heck?" The animation is very cool. It was done by Gerald Scarfe, who also did the album artwork. And it starred Bob Geldof, who otherwise didn't like any of Pink Floyd's music.
On a side note, I think The Final Cut is beautiful sounding, although essentially a Roger Waters album.

It never fails, whatever mood I'm in when I start it, I always feel a bit better afterwords. Even if I'm in a super good mood, or just a madly in anger with everyone mood, I always feel batter after listening to wish you were here. |

Money (imo) is the worst song on the album.

He seema all but unaware that A) Lots of peoples' daddies fought and died in the war; and B) They fought and died to defend the way of life that their descendants enjoy.
I'm coming to see the wall as very disrespectful of Eric Waters' memory, and the memories of all who fought in the wars, including both my grandfathers. |
