And you wouldn't have as many pieces of crap to choose from, not like you would be able to afford to buy it anyway at that point.
If you want a product of quality that's not made in China, you aren't dealing with walmart of any of the smaller businesses that compete with it.
Plus, sometimes it's the only place to go! When mom and pop stores wont decorate your cakes and so-forth!

For the time being, the matter has been settled - the Campbells had their cake made by Wal-Mart.
I'd be willing to bet that the writer of this article is only implying something that hasn't happened in order to fuel the "Walmart is evil!" paranoia which seems to be on of the more popular bandwagons to ride around on these days. It's possible that I'm wrong and that Walmart really did inscribe a birthday cake with Hitler's name on it but I want to see some proof.
Edit: Walmart did make a cake that said "Happy Birthday Adolph Hitler" See my 3rd post. (#13)

The ship's chandlers didn't provide everything he ordered, and he was able to buy it all at Wal-Mart. Cheaply, too. Everything from socks to mouthwash to 20 lbs of cabbage.

A Wal-Mart spokesman told The Associated Press on Wednesday that in light of the incident, the company would review its guidelines regarding cake decorations and other requests. "It's clear that in serving this customer, some people were offended," spokesman Greg Rossiter said. "As a result, we're going to review our policies." http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20081217/...dd_hitler_cake
So some Walmart bakery clerk does her job in carrying out a customer's request and now everyone really hates Walmart.
Walmart's cake decorating policy (I looked it up) is to refuse to allow profanity. Any other messages are allowed because there is no practical way to tell which political, ethnic, religious, or other messages cross the line on a case by case basis.
What if WalMart had a policy of no " Hitlers". Then someone comes in and wants "Happy Birthday Joseph Stalin" Quite a lot of people think he was just as evil as Adolph Hitler so then you have to add that name. What about "Happy Birthday Mao Zedong"? What if someone comes in and wants gang symbols? Or what about racially insensitive words?
It's easy for some mom and pop bakery to make these decisions. They just make the decision on the spot whether they want to do it or not and that's that. If you are a big company, you can't just leave that decision up to individual store workers or you would get some stores saying they don't allow decorations based on their own personal feelings about what is offensive and what isn't, and in only a short time they will be getting class action lawsuits for discrimination from every group that could possibly feel offended and who thinks it can get money from Wally World's deep pockets. They will be condemned for not having a company policy in place and for not training their workers in that policy.
But if they make a corporate decision about what is allowed and what isn't, then they have to make a detailed and comprehensive list and train their employees in how to follow that procedure and what to do when customers ask for decorations that are prohibited. And they will be condemned for having a discriminatory corporate policy and they will be sued by every group that could possibly be offended and who thinks that it can get money from Wally World's deep pockets. No matter what they do it will be seen as evidence that Walmart is evil. They are literally damned if they do and damned if they don't.
Those of you who are outraged at what Walmart has done in this story, I invite you to tell me what you would advise them to do now that they are reviewing their cake decorating policy.
Be specific. |

Its a great excuse... "I was just doing my job" and in my view, it does not cut it. You have an obligation as a human being to stop racism and hate. This ***hole is claiming he named this kid Hitler because its nice name and no one uses it? BULL**** he named him that because he is a racist peace of **** that needs to be taken out back and shot for ruining the kids life. I will bet you anything, that this kid will grow up to be an racist peace of **** just like his dad.
Now in no way am i trying to compare making cake to murder of 12+ million. But reason why Hitler (the real one) was able to get away with his crimes is because people turned their heads, and people "were just doing their jobs", and people didn't see anything wrong with people "just doing their jobs" by putting Gays, Jews, Gypsies, blacks, Slavs, and rest of the "unwanted" on trains.
Those people helped this happened by turning away from clear racism and crime that was happening are very much responsible for the murders that happened. There for, this cook, who agreed to make this cake and Walmart, in my eyes, is responsible to acceptance of hate and racism in this country.
And don't tell me we don't accept hate and racism in this country. We say they are "just ignorant" we let them live and think that their racism is somehow ok... Well, it's not, and if more people deny them opportunity to be a ignorant, racist, hating, poor excuse for "human" the harder it's going to be for them to spread their hate.
So, yes, I do hate this "acceptance" of racism. I really do, i even hate it in myself, because i know i do it to.
As far as Stalin cake -
There is a wonderful policy many places have, "Reserve a right to serve anyone". If you think its bad, don't do it. If you think it's hateful - Don't do it. We need to stop accepting this as it's "normal". It is defiantly NOT.

bc | More globalized that the biggest retailer in the world? I mainly hate Wal-Mart because they sell junk and they are well known for causing environmental harm, severely underpaying workers, driving small business out of town, ect.
