Bottom line is I don't break the law. So I don't mind. When I was actively gigging, 2:30-3:30 AM are prime times to get pulled over by the police. I've been pulled over multiple times for "swerving", which we all know is cop-speak for "I'm gonna pull over this drunk, but need an excuse". I never had a problem with it. I actually kind of enjoyed it because I never had anything to hide. Hell, there was one time it might have saved my ass, because I was exhausted on the drive. I was wide awake after I saw the lights in my rearview, however! |
Eric I said that it could have very well went in a different direction if you refused to allow security to check you or your bags.
In case you don't know you really do have the right to refuse. |

Most trained people in this line of work know that they risk more coming to them then they will ever dish out since many times a criminal has more rights. They also know their actions will be in the spotlight whenever they do use force in any way.
Does it happen sure but it is not often. I have never feared police or Security in any way and doubt I ever will. I have no reason to since I never cause any issues or break the law. Does that make me trust them all? No. does a criminal fear/hate them..Yes, and if confronted will usally become combative even if they have to take the life of the person in the line of duty.
Like I said the guard was wrong but I doubt he was trying to kill the suspect..he just went to far. If this crime was not committed everybody in this story would be continuing in their daily lives and there would be no story. As you all know as the world turns it will not stop or effect those who feel the need for whatever reason to break the law and with that sometimes issues like this one will happen.

In case you don't know you really do have the right to refuse. | I agree. If I refused it could certainly escalate. But my point is, if innocent, why refuse? I understand I have the right to, but why? If I would refuse I'd simply appear guilty.

If I was minding my own business and someone came up to me and did that, the police would be on their way because I would call them. Nobody has the right to detain me and make me answer for something I haven't done. Didn't they offer any type of civics education where you grew up?

Eric it happens to people like you and it happens every day. Do not ever give any one the full control over your person. Just like they ask you questions (interrogate), you have the right to ask questions as well.
If a security guard asks to step in a room or want to search me it's not happening. |

-Mike | Maybe not on an exposed pocket request, but who wouldn't call the cops if some fella in a store tried to detain us against our will? I sure wouldn't go sit in some loss prevention office; I don't see how force exerted to get me to do so is anything other than attempted kidnapping. |

| | Online | | Join Date: Apr 2001 Location: Sunapee, New Hampshire | | | Just wondering, how would you report that to police? Would you call 911? What would you say is your emergency? A Home Depot loss prevention officer has asked me to empty my pockets to make sure I'm not stealing, but I don't want or have to? Please come to the store now to protect me? I'm being kidnapped?

-Mike | Well, I said "not on an exposed pocket request," so I guess I'd wait till the point of forced detention and call 911 to say, "I was out trying to buy a 2x4 when some guy trapped me in a freezing cold dilapidated warehouse and has been physically assaulting me whenever I try to leave." |

People worry about the government eroding our rights, from the looks of it a lot of people here will just hand them over anyway. |
