Never saw him, but definitely seems like a rather nice slice of pop culture

RIP, Mr. Cronkite. I never aspired to work on TV, but he was an inspiration to journalism students of my generation (as well as others).

Walter was a voice of reason in America for a long time, and was trusted by more of us Americans than most other public figures.
He was a part of my growing up, and I have much respect for him.
RIP

Good night, Uncle Walter...

...he was the voice of one of the most indelible memories of my life, and he almost lived to see the 40th anniversary of it.

He set the standard of how to report the news in a new medium, and no one has since reached that standard, and somehow, I doubt anyone ever will.

+1

He told the world that JFK was dead. He told the world about Martin and Bobby, too. I saw the clip this morning of the Apollo 11 landing. That child-like look on his face was priceless.

So do I. Especially on every Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo mission, which I followed passionately. Coincidentally, I'd been thinking of him a lot in recent days as the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 11 lunar landing approached.
