I bought an item using Paypal last Thursday from someone outside my city and was promised a tracking number by Monday.

I spoke to the seller a couple times by phone and he sounded like a nice person. We exchanged emails regularly in the days up to the time I Paypal'd this person.

Monday came and went. No email, no phone call.

I emailed the seller once yesterday and called once this morning (Tuesday) and have gotten no response.

Ok, No biggie, I say to myself. He's probably busy and will get around to it . . . BUT . . .

He listed a couple of items on CL Tuesday morning and is now happy to ship but won't take Paypal (ie, buyer has no recourse!)

Something about the whole thing didn't feel right from the start.

What would you do?

If you paid by Paypal you have nothing to worry about. Not giving a tracking number alone warrants a refund. Give it a little time.

You don't know if your item was shipped or not at this point.

However, if you paid through PayPal, I would contact them first and see what your recourse is in the event you don't get your purchase.

It stinks, but I know I can get my $$$ back through Paypal.

Now I'm worried this person is going to rip someone else off with the new ads.

Should I post the CL ads here? I don't want to defame unnecessarily.

Are you sure about this? I had a similar situation and filed a dispute immediately. PayPal went thru their normal investigative process and judged in my favor. I got back...get this...about $2 as that was the balance of the seller's PayPal account. They did freeze the seller's account which really caught his attention. He was on the phone to me immediately and I got the item within 2 days.

I'm pretty sure as I just got off the phone with someone at Paypal. They said that even if the the money is moved out of the persons account they can get it back.

Man, at this point I just want what I paid for.

I certainly will. Thank you.

At this point the seller has until Oct 1st to supply a tracking number.

My real concern at this point is that other people are going to get ripped off. See the CL links above.

If this guy has a really solid PayPal history (# transactions, verified, premier account, etc.), I wouldn't be overly concerned. I would find the lack of communication rather irksome, though.

He actually does NOT have a solid Paypal history.

He also told me that he has had mulitple eBay handles because he buys stuff and never pays for it.

what else . . .

he's got two names listed on his FB page

on the phone he said he's 49 years old but on his FB page it's listed as 32

Just weird all around . . .

but after speaking to Paypal I'm pretty confident I'll get my money back.

Wait so why did you deal with him in the first place knowing this?

Right . . . well, one of my coworkers today told me I expect too much from people.

Go figure.

I spoke to this guy by phone twice and he seemed nice enough. Also, he's clearly a bass player. We talked about bass stuff for a while.

His current eBay handle has 100% feedback as a buyer, so although he admitted that he'd goofed on eBay before that seemed like an honest thing to say. I didn't think most scam artist are as forthcoming.

Also, I knew I'd be protected by Paypal, even though that would be a last resort. Unfortunately that's what it's come to.

I'll PM you his name. Thanks.

I keep wanting to give this guy the benefit of the doubt, but when I saw his ads posted up this morning and the whole "no paypal" thing . . . . and all the other stuff . . . it just doesn't add up.

The ads are deleted. I guess he got the Paypal notice.

thanks EBodious.

Oddly, I don't have any hard feeling towards the seller. Maybe that will change. A TBer reached out to me by phone (THANK YOU) and gave me some context about the seller, so at this point I just want the best for everyone involved.

I'll keep you guys posted as to how Paypal handles the situation.

Thanks again for some TB love.
