The Washington Monument May Be Tilting?

Just heard this on the news...

I don't know what all the hub-bub is, my monument tilts a little to the left and it's always been considered a bonus judging by the feedback I've gotten.

I work in downtown DC at 14th & Constitution. Most of us left the building when the tremors hit - probably a dumb idea, but there it is. Anyway, there was a Park Services helicopter going round and round the Monument, and I figured it was to check for any obvious damage.

If the Washington Monument falls does that mean Nicholas Cage will stop making movies?

After all the NPS & DHS concern about protecting it from "terrorists," it'd surely be a laff riot if it fell over on its own, huh?

5.9 barely counts.

No, it's not a linear scale.

In the east coasts defense I would say that our buildings are constructed with earthquakes in mind here on the left coast. I'm pretty certain most of the older structures on the eastern seaboard are suspect to say the least. Having lived in a brownstone in Philly, I can certainly see what the hub bub is about

Only relatively recently, and only in some locations where mandated.

Most aren't.

Finally showing it's age eh?
Budget cuts to federal employee health care, can't get as many of those little blue pills eh?
Why am I the first to post phallic jokes?

Hey, I like Nick Cage... we should erect a giant stature of nicolas cage to hold the monument up!

Problem solved.

Handedness does not determine swing.
