I've been pulled over three times in the last six months for not having a front license plate. On two different cars. First time I've ever had cops pull me over for this in my years as a driver, and I've been driving the same car (without a front plate) for a decade.
Don't ever let anyone tell you we need more cops on the street, we've got far too many if this is how they utilize their manpower.

Secondly, why is it their fault that they're nabbing you for something illegal. You live in a state that requires two plates, why not use both?

My car is currently experiencing problems relating to "running" so I've been driving the girlfriend's car for the last couple months. Quote:

My issue isn't with requiring a front plate, it's that they're using that as their primary reason for a traffic stop. It has nothing to do with public safety, it's just harassment and a trolling effort to catch someone with a bigger infraction.

Then, I see how this situation got. For ten years, Unrepresented rolled past incompetent cops. Lots of them, probably, as the profession has had waves of popularity through the years. In a recent turn of events, these officers gained maybe better training, maybe a better morale, and today they apply and enforce the law. But the new recruits just kept coming in, even though someone getting his badge today might be twice as efficient as a recruit ten years earlier.
So while a given number of officers could accomplish the necessary work a couple of decades earlier, this same number is now too high, thanks to the competence of today's law enforcement workers.
Ladies and gents, we have to thank Unrepresented for pointing out the improvement in the local police force, and suggesting some money-saving interventions that can be applied while criminals still get what they deserve.

If they're just checking on insurance info and registration I can't really see a problem with that...although if they're acting like the Gestapo that's not really cool...I'd just put a front license plate on and problem fixed. |

They should have less cops so that more people can get away with not following the law. |

However, I disagree with the notion that the whole lot of them can be generalized under such a broad umbrella so blithely. They're people, just like we are, and are prone to making mistakes, and they're most certainly not all the same people.
And, FWIW, why don't you put a front plate on your cars? |

Yes... waaay too many cops, especially here in California. The local municipalities are always whining about running out of tax revenues... But if the City Managers would be honest about where a BIG chunk of the budgeted money goes, the number of cops would drop to a sustanable number accordingly... but I'm not holding my breath... |

And, FWIW, why don't you put a front plate on your cars? | Sure they're human. But when you repeatedly break a known law, and then complain that it's the cops that are the problem..... |

Tickets are one funding option. Tickets for law violations are ALWAYS the better funding option.
Don't start thinking you're elected or something and laws don't apply to you...

| | Amen! | | Join Date: Mar 2006 Location: Eagle River, Alaska | | | The big reason for all of this is that in the current economic times, alot of municipalities and cities are now looking to the law enforcement branch to produce revenue. In effect the politicos are telling the cops to make money first and do their job second. Alot of them are ticked, this is not what they signed up for. |

| | Registered User | | Join Date: Feb 2005 Location: Yuma, Az | | I had problems with getting pulled over repeatedly while I lived in California, too. Then I started obeying all laws regarding headlights, registration, etc. The final nail in the coffin of Walter-getting-pulled-over was when I took two sheet metal screws and attached the front license plate to my car
Of course they're pulling people over for minor infractions! The number of felons that let things like brake lights and car registration go unattended while they're worried about drug deals, the alcohol on their breath, or the warrant for manslaughter they've been ignoring is simply astounding! Staggering, I tell you! You'd think that criminals weren't responsible members of society the way some of them drive around!
