On Friday, I received a text message from the sister of a TB'er with whom I'd met previously for a transaction; sadly, on Sunday, 28 June, Dwayne "Mac" MacPhail (TB handle The Mac) suffered a stroke and passed away.
My experience with Dwayne was fairly short in duration and magnitude, but he came across as an incredibly warm, considerate, and genuine person. He purchased some cabs off of me, but due to his hectic travel schedule, he declined to have my ship them to him. He sent me a down payment to secure the cabs as his, and he assured me that he would contact me in a week or two when he had completed his travel. Well, his travel become months, but Mac was always in touch, thanking me far more graciously than was necessary for hanging onto the cabs for him. He always offered to send more money for my troubles, even through his down payment was more than enough. Finally, his travels brought him very close to my house, and I met him one weekend afternoon. He treated me more like an old friend than a stranger from the internet; he smiled for the entire 20-30 minutes we were together, he shook my hand more times than I could count, and he even pulled me in for a half-handshake, half-hug when we parted. He couldn't have been kinder if I had given him the cabs for free.
Mac wasn't a particularly active TB'er, so although his loss won't be felt by many here on the board, I felt like he deserved to be acknowledged as a very kind soul who passed before his time, and will certainly be missed by those who were lucky enough to know him more closely than I.
