We retrieved a stolen motorcycle from a con-artist.

Hurray.

As some of you know, I own a motorcycle dealership.

A couple of months ago a con-artist robbed us of one of our new bikes. With a bank cheque that bounced... and the douchebag then disappeared. The adress on his ID was worthless and we came across other people and businesses he scammed. Like the guy he rented an apartment from, his bank and an Audi garage.

The motorcycle was sort of unique, new model from this year and a very distinctive color.

Yesterday I found it online for sale... it had to be 9 out of 10 chances it was our stolen bike. It was for sale at a used motorcycle store.
I tried to contact the store but the guy who owns the place acted very suspicious... and agrevated.
Last lines of the phonecall:
he: "Don't bother me on this, I will not cooperate with you on this and give you the VIN number."
me: "Well, you don't have to. Let's see how you cooperate with the police."

An hour later police visited that store... those bastards didn't had time to hide the motorcycle.
The police confiscated the bike and we should get it back next week.

That store is going to be investigated and possibly fined for intentionally buying stolen goods.
Good, the owner was very suspicious and from what I heard there are other shady practices going on over there.

The con-artist is still not caught. But it won't be long now. Police got a lead on him, and there are several (angry) people, myself among, looking for him.
I could track him down in two days... but that would only be to beat the living daylights out of him.
Will not do that... I wont go to jail myself because of this douchebag.
But if I happen to run into this guy, I will run into this guy good. I will run him right into a hospital bed.
I'm not an agressive or angry man, but steal from me then you get to see a different me.

We still have some financial damages because of him, but at least we have the motorcycle back.

So, good news.

And hoping the police and our lawyer can bring this man to justice.

Good to hear. Anyone who steals a bike is not a good person in my opinion.

I love the things too much

I've had my motorcycle license for several years now and haven't purchased a bike because of:

a) the value of a bike
b) the ease of which that value can be taken.

Glad you got your property back, though

Thanks guys.

Unrepresented, yeah I know. New motorcycles are expensive. And with the current economic crisis most people see them as luxury objects that they can do without.
Makes it hard to keep my head above water.

But I worked long and hard for my business so I can buffer for a bad year. (Actually, it's not a bad year after all, just the sales of new bikes is down.)

But, stealing is stealing. Wether you steal from a poor man or from a big business.
I have zero tolerance for thiefs.

Good job that you got the bike back, at least.

Congrats!

Im suprised ppl still use cheques, did you make sure the acc had founds before giving the guy the bike?

I remeber that back in the day, 95 or so, when ppl still used cheques, you couldnt leave the store unless the acc had founds and once they checked on that the bank held the money out of the acc until the cheque was paid.

Glad to hear you got your bike back. My dad is also a bike dealer. He deals in Moto Guzzi and had his fair share of people trying to write bad checks. He has a stack of bad checks from when he was stringing along and playing with a Nigerian scammer.

Now that I have my own bike (BMW R80, LOVE IT), I'm doing my best to make sure its secure at all times.

Yeah, it's ~$10K for a new sports bike that weighs ~400 lbs and presumably sits unattended on the street and is an obvious target.

I can't justify owning one without having a garage to store it in, which is a ways off with the current financial crisis...
