The weaponization of Nerf.

When I was a kid Nerf made things like footballs. Now it's all guns, and swords and stuff. Anyone else a little concerned about this trend? Highly effective guns made out of plastic. Sometimes I wonder if manufacturers are just putting out what the market demands, or if they are making some kind of prediction on where things are heading. Makes me wonder if the know something we don't.

My guess is that Nerf is just trying to put out what kids want.

With all the video games and television with guns, it's what kids are attracted to. Therefore, they make toy guns and BAM! There's the money.

I miss my Nerf football.

The guns aren't half as entertaining.

i wish i still had some of those nerf guns when i was a kid. they go for lots of money on ebay now since they were only made for a year.

i had a weapon(not made by nerf) called an Ultimator that goes for over $300. You pumped it up with a spring loaded chamber that shot hard foam. It kinda hurt but only if you were close. I shot it at the deer in our back yard since we couldn't have weapons

i say kids are going to be kids and as long as your not giving them actual weapons let them run out their energy. Better that than having it bottled up

I think it may generate some interest among younger kids in real weaponry but not so much that it would be dangerous. A lot of nerfers, even the young ones, are getting into modifying stock nerf guns for better performance and I think that's more of a plus because it forces them to think about how all this stuff works. Hehe, would would thought toy guns could make you smarter

IMHO, highly effective is not the word I would use to describe nerf guns, at least stock ones

Perhaps, but maybe not even that. Looking back, I spent many an hour having nerf gun wars with my friends in my younger years, and any interest I ever had in -real- guns was mild and only for a short period of time.

I loved the Nerf guns... chasing each other around the yard with my Nerf Bow and Arrows and guns... wore us out with no chance of getting hurt. Nerf guns were great as a kid.

But so were the Nerf footballs. We picked up one of those old Nerf Footballs with the fins so it spirals at a yard sale for a quarter. Best purchase I've ever made.

Give'em the guns. I am tired of seeing our kids being pussyfied be the liberal establishment! You can't have have a man card later in life if all you get is sensitivity classes and sing Kum by yah when you are young.

Or maybe an Oozenater !

I approve of this statement. By the time I was 12 I had my own .22 and an 870 Express.

Guns have a greater and more natural history than Football. Young people of all ages are active in the Sport and use Guns. My Dad was a Marksman Class Shooter and taught me all about Guns, how to handle them, how to care for them and what not to do with them.

My Son has the Nerf Guns and Nerf Footballs - we play catch more with the Football than we shoot the Nerf Guns. But I don't think it is a trend - if anything this is bringing back a natural use of Firearms. The way the world is going I want my Son to be able to handle a gun and use one effectively if ever needed. Does not lend to the tales of violence - it is a natural thing and a natural right to have them in toy or real form IMO and IME.
